Just been to see this and very glad I did! The film is well puttogether with excellent use of many different angles and the oldvideotape footage realistic without being over the top. The astronautsare all likable characters, who you just want to support all the wayand there is good background plot without wasting to much time at thebeginning. The special effects are very realistic and the way that theaction and the tense plot builds really makes you want to see more. There are good scares without unnecessary gore or over the top action, you will definitely jump at least once - I promise !Overall and entertaining film that delivers something different withoutbeing predictable or slow. Well worth a visit and your hard earnedpennies! 9/10

Yes I broke down and pulled ten bucks out and went to see this film Ithought I wouldn't see it at the show because I hate the my theater toomany kids annoying me with their cellphones, but I went on a night whenit was quiet. I just got home from the movies and I was thinking of howoriginal this story was. The acting was really well done. The footagelooked very authentic according to the time period. Judging by thetrailers I kind of got the hint that it might be a film about a virusof some sort. My thoughts were correct, but that's only part of thestory. I thought it was really unique how they used the very thing thatthey brought home which was the lunar rocks, this ended up being theproblem all along for the astronauts. I found that this film had all the right moves in the right places. Itstarted out a little slow and they saved the best for last. It was avery subtle film with an escalated finish, which is good. I thoughtwhen they found the cosmonauts by the LV that maybe that they just wenta little loony due to a virus, which they did, but that was once againonly part of the story. At this point in time I didn't know the wholestory just yet. They hinted toward the lunar rocks earlier in the filmbut I just couldn't see how this was the problem, since the rockslooked just like ordinary rocks we see all the time. It isn't until theend where we see the full transformation of this parasite, bug, whatever you want to call them. This film just makes us wonder about if there are really parasites fromanother planet, living on the lunar surface, ones that don't needoxygen to survive, but maybe they get their energy from the highamounts of radiation from the sun. Who are we to think you have to havewater and oxygen to live? We know absolutely nothing about what'sreally out there in space. We might think we do because we think we aretechnologically advanced. But I think we are in the primate stages ofthis technology in studying science and space altogether. We havereally no idea what crashed into the moon millions of years ago. Forexample scientists recently discovered life living in the Dead Sea,where we once thought the salt content was too high for anything tolive in. But once again we were wrong. These organisms that they foundactually use the salt to live.So back to my original thought. Why can't there be organisms that liveoff of radiation from the sun? Is this really impossible? Like I saidwe know nothing about space exploration and whats really out there, allwe've done is sent people to the moon and back. I think it would bearrogant of us to assume that this sort of life form can't exist. It's not the greatest film on the planet and not the worst, but thereseems to be a lot of negativity floating around the message boards onthis website from people that haven't even seen the film yet. Thenthere's the people that say, "Well how could they recovered the footageif the LV crashed into the Freedom section of the Apollo rocket?" All Isay to that is use your imagination! Maybe the Department of Defensesent up a recovery mission to get the footage and all the equipment andquarantined it here on earth. Some other reviews mention ParanormalActivity and Blair Witch. What the heck does this story have anythingto do with those 2 films? NOTHING! It's a conspiracy space film not aghost film! Do you get that!? Do you copy that!? NO GHOSTIES HERE! YesI agree it is documentary style similar to those two films mentioned. But so were the original Apollo missions. So take your Blair Witch crapidea to people who sit in a room and play Warcraft 24/7. These reviewsare written by immature people who think they know everything. I myselfam not talented enough to think of a cool idea like this. There is waytoo many negative people out there with nothing better to do than bashfilms, even ones they haven't seen, they're just going off of what theyseen in the trailers. Not all film ideas have to be force fed to us, for us to understand. That's another highlight of this film too, it makes us wonder at theend. I'm happy with the ending, as is. I like this aspect of the film, that it does make us ask questions, I'm glad that it doesn't explainevery little technical aspect. There might be some nitpickers outthere, but I really don't care about that kind of cynical opinion. Somepeople love to see all the negativity of a film and never the positiveaspects. This is what I think the underlying message of this film is. That wetruly know nothing when it comes to the abyss of space. Thanks for readingJeffrey J Turner, Sarnia, ON, Canada

I liked Blair Witch. So upon reading about this movie, I went ahead tosee it. Apollo 18 is original in the idea, how moon rocks are actuallylittle spider creatures that eat human for lunch, and infecting them tobe some kind of a raving lunatic zombie. The effects are OK, probably because the movie is filmed as if it isfrom 1980s video recorder. I actually wanted to see more of this rockcreature, especially when they start to bury inside human body. More ofthat gore is needed for me. But then I also understand that the filmmaker has only few characters to work with.I think this movie would be even a greater movie if it wasn't doneBlair-Witchy style, of course at the hand of a master like StevenSpielberg and the likes. Overall an entertaining movie and willdefinitely makes you think twice of going Moon Vacation in the future.

i think it did its job: fast, furious and a lot of tension. Reviewsthat say they would do better or stupid decisions were made don't getthe film soul. Of course ur decision is better, ur here behind ascreen, but the truth is only one: cops, firefighters usually don't doright when they find an unusual situation, and we are talking aboutearth and humans, things u see everyday, not spaceflights that usuallyblows up. The film is great when u think it comes to a very small spacemodule and a "rock" celestial body, and 90 minutes of panic and intensechasing.Thumbs up for the movie, if u can imagine you on the skin of anastronaut that finds "things" on the moon and other dark secrets....

The main reason I saw this was because I convinced my friend who I sawthis with that it was real. And other than plain over-used tactics toscare the audience, dull antagonists(Rock spiders that oddly can breathin space with no air)and terrible ending, the film could have beenpretty good with a good concept and great performances by the cast. Butit has a dull beginning not grabbing your attention, weak buildingpoint but still maintained to be interesting when wanting to know whathappens next, then the climax picks up everything with some intensenail-biting moments and then the ending just lets you down. So over alli would say good concept but don't like the way they went about it,goodjob for 5 million dollar budget and well ya it's just awful just don'tsee it.

If you put Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity through ablender, the result is this frightening journey into the realm ofastronauts and their 'real-life' encounters on the moon. Directed byGonzalo Lopez-Gallego and produced by Timur Bekmambetov, the sci-fihorror centers around a fictional premise of an actual Apollo 18mission that was launched in December 1974, that supposedly neverreturned and as a result, signified the real reason why the UnitedStates never commissioned another expedition to the Moon. It is awell-made film that is gripping in its style and will draw you deeperinto the unknown. The reality of what really happened is overshadowedby the immense possibility of what could have happened. This is whatmakes it so intriguing, the fact that there is no distinction betweenthe what if and the what did.

I went into this hoping it would be so terrible that it would be funny, but it was just sad. I'm sort of an Apollo nerd, so I was looking at alot of the specifics. Although the spacecraft were accurate and lookedgreat, I was disappointed right away when they lifted the script forthe landing sequence right from the transcript of the Apollo 11landing. Really? And then when the LMP finds the abandoned Russian LK(which I was pleasantly surprised when seeing it was historicallyaccurate), he magically knew how to operate it because their "systemsare similar to ours." Please. The premise of the story was cool, though. I'm fascinated by thesetypes of films where the characters are completely cut off. Just wishit would have been a little better written and better financed, andthat the beginning hadn't been so rushed. They could have at least hada scene where they were being briefed by the DoD or whatever, andhaving their cargo loaded to the Saturn V so we could establish whatthey were doing. This didn't really live up to the hype from thetrailers.

As many others, I don't know why this movie is so hefty unloved here.If it's criticized because it's a sub-genre movie, and quasi adescendant of 'Blair Witch Project', 'Cloverfield' and others, I haveto correct things and have to say that THOSE movies are all DIRECTdescendants and plagiatizations from the German director Rainer Erler's1970's TV movie "Die Delegation".The said 1970's movie uses the documentary style for luring theaudience into the belief, shown things happened for real. Many peoplethen thought it was real. So, a sub-genre was born, and nobody wouldand should hate any movie because it is easily attributable.'Apollo 18' is a sub-genre film, and technically it is very well usingthe mockumentary style. From the very beginning we are confronted withnoisy videos, dusty photos and what I call 'The colors of theseventies'. There's a possibility that people who are born in theeighties or nineties don't remember anything of it. I understand thatthose people aren't familiar with grainy pictures and interlacedinstable TV, and that they don't feel what older people like me do feelwhile watching a very convincing imitation like this. The three actors do a decent job, although the main actor in the movieis the interior of the space capsule and the void around, together withold technique that looks and works prehistoric. The script doesn't givemuch space for acting, and so does (not) the camera and the cut. Also,we know that especially astronauts are trained for mental stability indangerous situations. So, for my taste of reality, they do enough andare present enough. What is really lacking is the solution, if you want one. The finale incombination with the alien life-form may let one unsatisfied. Andactually I found here a big opportunity wasted. No '2001' has to becited for a more intelligent approach (and isn't of course), and no'Alien' for more tension (mostly isn't), but what finally came out is'Pitch Black', which I totally like, but not this weak. So, is 'Apollo 18' a failure ? - No, not in my opinion. It is dense, technically OK, and does it's Job, which is entertaining withclaustrophobia and helplessness. It's good for a movie that cheap, andit's not to punish for it's few weaknesses. For the big screen it's abit too small, but ideal for a nice DVD evening on a, say, 50 inchscreen.I give it 6.5, which is here 7. What I was wondering about is thatthere are at least 5 good reviews here, where the movie isn't rated. Not that it matters with >11.000 ratings, but I would recommend to ratea movie following the review.

A found-footage horror movie that purports to have been recovered fromNASA's secret final moon mission in the early 1970s. If you're a fan offound-footage horror movies, this one is definitely worth seeing. Itfollows the formula a little too closely, and in the end it's a taddisappointing. But, I must say, this is the only genre of horror moviesthat pretty much always scares me. It's all about keeping the threatoff screen for as long as possible, giving only hints of it until thefilm nears the end. They rely mostly on boo! moments and loud noises, but it generally works, at least for me. There's a nice sense of dreadfor quite a while in the film, and, like The Blair Witch Project orParanormal Activity, I was watching it with my eyes slightly avertedfrom the screen. The ending of this one is pretty silly, and it deniesus a final twist that it hints at frequently. Like those previous twomovies I mentioned, I'll never watch this again, but I was quiteentertained while watching it.

I have to say this is the worst movie I have ever watched. 2 friendsagreed. We were all thinking, how long does this go on? You keepwaiting for something to happen and nothing does except nearer theend--you keep thinking they can't make a movie like this with nothinghappening so I'll stay longer; it has to be happening pretty soon, butit never does. Very boring. Reminds me of "The Blair Witch Project".Same type of movie done in a the same style. The Blair Witch Projectkept you thinking that something had to happen pretty soon, they can'tpossibly make a movie this boring with no plot--the same goes forApollo 18.

Oh my goodness gracious, what do we have here? I really do not knowwhat to say. First off, I am really tired and sick of all of thehand-held camera type of filming. It is really cheap and stupid! Eversince Blair Witch Project, movie studios have been humping Hollywoodwith all these hand-held camera crap. I really am sick of that. Filmdirectors seem to like to do the cheap way of filmmaking. Well, I gottatell yeah, this is not how you are going to surpass making movies inHollywood. I usually never go to the bathroom in movies, but this was the firstmovie in a long time in which I did. I just had to stop watching andtake a breather from such a bad movie. I swear that there were momentswhen people in the theater, including me, were laughing and rolling oureyes at all the 'scary moments' this movie had. If they wanna pretendthat this is real, at least have some good effects, to make it seemreal. I bet you a third grader could do better effects than they didhere. So, in case you did not guess from this review: TERRIBLE!

Apollo 13, Paranormal Activity, and Alien have little shock compared tothis beauty! What makes Apollo18 so watchable is its believablenotions. Why haven't we returned to the moon? At last the viewers havean answer; and if even this movie is all fiction, the "reasons why"sound completely plausible. The movie was easy to follow and thedialogue was in layman terms. Three loud screams of shock came from ourliving room while the movie continued. I recommend it to anyone who isready for a fun ride! And the internet www.lunatruth.org is great tosee for other information. To all who are thinking of watching this butare not fans of horror or scary films: You will be alright! :)

Apollo 18 (1:26, PG-13)  SF, bargain basement, crossoverI'm not going to spend a lot of time writing this one up. It starts outin the 1st 20 minutes with our heroes discovering an abandonedspaceship on another world (in this case the Moon) that they didn't putthere. This resonance with a well done film like Alien or an expensiveone like Transformers 3 is the upside. The downside is that the rest ofthe movie is done using the "found footage", blurry focus, jigglyhand-held camera technique pioneered by The Blair Witch Project andsubsequently used to varying effect in Cloverfield and ParanormalActivity. The problem is that, like Charles Foster Kane's last word, which NOBODY WAS AROUND TO HEAR, there's absolutely no indication ofhow this footage was ever found, since the last we see of it is whenit's abandoned during the eponymous last mission to the Moon. There'salso the nagging question of who, exactly, is shooting the pictures ofthe only 2 guys in the LEM when they're both IN the picture. This is a bargain-basement production which gets maximum mileage out ofits extremely limited budget and intentionally shoddy productionvalues. This is due mainly to an effective, gritty cast comprising 3no-name actors: Ryan Robbins as John Grey, commander of the lunarorbiter Freedom; Lloyd Owen as Nathan Walker, commander of the lunarexcursion module Liberty; and Warren Christie as Benjamin Anderson, pilot of the LEM.But there's hardly anything to the plot. Something strange is hangingout near the lunar touchdown point, and it becomes apparent that the USDepartment of Defense knew about it in advance but didn't clue in theastronauts. That's it. The rest is just waiting for a glimpse of thegobblies.Well done for what it is, but, to paraphrase Gertrude Stein's commentabout Philadelphia, there's not much THERE there.

For me, Apollo 18 was just too boring. They were trying to capitalizeon the found footage craze lately, but they didn't really accomplishthat. The movie is advertized as horror, but I would call it a sci-fidrama at most. The characters were decent enough; I wasn't reallyattached to them but they served their purpose. But my major problemwas that nothing really happens for 80% of the film as far as scaresgo. There just weren't enough shocking or scary scenes in the film tomake the found footage aspect work. It had it's moments, but overallthe pacing was too slow and the pay off really wasn't there.4/10, good idea, poor execution

Apollo 18's plot was terrible, it had a good premise but did not followthrough. The thriller aspect was very lost on me as I didn't feelscared or even have any of those jumpy moments. I've been morefrightened by sneezing unexpectedly. The "reason we haven't returned tothe moon" is unbelievable and stupid. The actors were good with whatlittle plot it had and the landscapes, scenery and props were good andfor these 2 reasons I give it 2 stars. So if you want to waste money and 90 mins of your life then by allmeans go see this film, if however, you prize your existence and do notwish to be bored, un-entertained and a little lighter in your pocketsthen avoid this film as I wish I had!!

I had mixed feelings of watching this film in the first place. On onehand, you have the concept of an alien invader in the classical JohnCarpenter's The Thing way, which leads one to believe that you mightcough up the big bucks and see it in theater. Then, you sit back andtry to think of when the last time you saw anything good in theaterwas, and it makes you change your mind. I did rent this one with lowexpectations, and I was not disappointed. I knew it was most likely notgoing to be a strong enough plot, nor cast, nor film making to be theleast bit intriguing, and I was right. The film is another one of thosethat could have been a great film if the concept was put into the righthands, unfortunately it wasn't. The actors were a little over the topon more of a solider character kick instead of one which is sciencebased. Not to mention that it took so long to get into anythingremotely interesting that I felt that I was traveling the light-years.Also, I understand that it was supposed to be the 'lost footage,' butthere was still room for improvement in the camera movement. Then, thebig reveal... an aaallliiieeeennn.... spider? Really? What a waste of$1.07.

it also proved that those so-called 18 missions to moon might be justhoaxes done by the U.S. government. Many evidences had already surfacedto prove that "A giant step on the Moon by Man" was just a B&W made-upshow produced by the NASA. The most obvious evidence is if the U.S.could keep sending astronauts onto the Moon, how and why and how comesending the Space Shuttle just up to the Earth orbit were such abig-deal difficult jobs? If this movie and lot of other Sci-fi moviescould be made all like real, then it might also hint that thosemissions to the moon were just bogus scams to fool people to believethat landing on the Moon was actually done. But we also had viewedcertain documentary movies which had pointed out so many phony andfalse scenes broadcast in the 1960 era. How come there were breeze orgust wind on the Moon blowing the American flag to flip n' flop? Whythere were so many different angled shadows of the rocks on the Moon, even the astronauts' shadows were cast in different angle? Obviouslythe light sources that casting the shadows were from different lightingequipment and that result could only have happened indoor.I also wonder if this movie is trying to scare the Chinese SpaceProgram not try so hard sending Chinese onto the Moon. If the ChineseAstronauts landing at the same areas that the Americans claimed wherethey landed and left behind lot of equipment but later find out there'snothing at all left behind by the American. Then....well, that scammight be exposed to be the biggest lie made by the Americans. The shaky camera and shaky scene after scene were just proved how badand how phony this movie is trying to fool us. "One small step by themankind (on the Moon), A giant step of mankind civilization..." What agreat dialog created by the screenplay writers co-authored by thoseNASA geniuses! Bite me!

You're always concerned when there are a lack of reviews prior to arelease and many may see this as a reason to avoid this film, howeverthere is a lot to appreciate in this taught and claustrophobic horror. The film uses many of the techniques cemented by Blair Witch so expecthand-cam action and, given its background, the footage is also filmedmuch like the moon landing footage. The reasons behind this are obviousas it allows the development team to avoid expensive special effectsdue to the quality of the footage.Acting is also good. Given most main scenes are set in tight spaces theactors have to get the most out of their environments. They do thiswell, building on the feeling of being trapped by not one but two mainenemies. In fact it is this doubt and then dawning realisation thatthey are simply pawns in a much bigger game which comes across best, and the growing understanding that they aren't going to be coming home.Taking time to explain the reasons behind the mission, a reasonablelaunch date (to avoid prying eyes) and having obviously paid attentionto footage from the other Apollo missions the plot moves well. There'senough going on at all times to keep you engaged. In the end this is never going to be everyone's film. It's going to becompared to Blair Witch and will be disliked by those expecting asci-fi effects fest. It isn't these things. It's just a well madehorror/thriller that doesn't outlast its welcome.

For a movie with what must have been a fairly low budget, the Apollo 18filming team definitely did a great job. The moon and space sceneslooked very realistic, and the director definitely knows how to film amovie in the "found footage" genre. The small cast of actors also did apretty great job. So what went wrong here? Overall, I think, the"horror" element of the movie seemed half-baked, and the monstersseemed tacked on.For example, with any good horror movie, the villain is given some sortof motivation - even if those motivations are left vague. But, askyourself, what were the motivation of these moon-rock spiders? Theywould simply attack these astronauts, make them slowly go crazy, themleave them to die. ...Even when they pulled the astronaut into the darkcrater, he re-appeared a little crazier but no worse for ware. For this and other reasons, it seemed that little thought was put intothe plot. Still, the movie was a good way to kill 70-minutes.

Apollo 18 showed promise of a new age of found footage type film. Likethe Paranormal Activity series which captured paranormal events on avideo camera, Apollo 18 offered us a look at ''why we've never goneback to the moon.'' If the reasons are bad acting and literally no signof a story line then I can see why. This movie's plot - or lack of - show three generic Americanstereotypes who literally end up in Space, with generic American oneand two going on the moon while three orbits around. After a slow buildup things look as if they will pick up.To be blunt they don't.Footage of rocks moving in the background and footprints which arenever explained this movie offers very little of anything to appeaseany sort of fan. It is like someone just put bits of unwanted bits ofother films together and threw it in because this film has no basicplot at all.Dire from the start.
