Deck the Halls seems to have been conceived on the back of a snot-soaked tissue by a none-too-bright second grader.

The movie begins with some promise, building characters and presentinga conflict. However, the last half hour is a joke (and a bad one atthat). There is no acting, no plot, and no comedy. The worst part ofthe film is when the family is walking down a holiday lane that DeVitobuilds in efforts to make amends to everyone. My jaw dropped as Iwatched the movie get worse by the minute. I like Danny DeVito. He hasan interesting character for the first half of the film. But as thecharacter changes toward the end the interesting aspect quickly wearsoff. I would only suggest that anyone watch this film if they want tosee some terrible film-making.

Yeah I know about suspending reality while watching a movie and what isreal is Kristin's movie husband, he is a manipulative loser with alittle man complex who trys to find meaning in his car salesman life byhanging more lights than his neighbor, got it BUT...PLEASE...how in thereal world would this happen to the level the movie got to w/o thewives freaking out way way earlier in real life and at a MUCH MUCHhigher emotional intensity? The wives, especially Danny Devito's moviewife is not portrayed as weak, in fact, she's been down this road b/4with him...both wives leave their husbands way way too late in themovie...I know they had to leave for the plot arch to work...but that'smy point it didn't work. Contrived plot and script. Highlites areKristin's boobs and the twins hotness. And Broderick in the back seatgetting warmed up by DV...that was funny. Neither saved the movie forme. This will be in the $3 bin before next Chrstmas.

I took my nieces & nephew to see this movie, mostly because I saw thepreview and knew it was a good idea to catch a matinée today... Ofcourse, as an adult, I saw the bad acting issues, the character flaws, and such - but on a youngster level, with all the action andexcitement, every child I saw in the theatre was laughing at every gagoffered (and many adults too) - Who cares if they saw a similar take inanother movie three or four years ago? What they did with modern homelighting is simply AMAZING... and great to see on the big screen! Iwish there were more.Yes there were some predictable moments - where I groaned knowing whatwas about to happen next... it's all part of the gag setup.Slapstick-ish at best. Of course this isn't an Oscar winner, it's notmade to be that. It's the good happy feeling you get at the end whenthe lights come up.This movie is very family friendly - no curse words at all. Christianfamilies will love it as well as it is not Santa-centered. I'm sure itwill be very popular next year as a DVD buy/rent option.

At least Matthew Broderick and Danny Devito didn't appear to be tryingway to hard to be funny, they both seem to hit there mark just right. Some of whats in this movie does not make it a Christmas for the thewhole family, unless your kids can look over the adult jokes, and enjoythe slapstick's humor that this movie seems to dish out. It starts withtoo neighbors named Doug(Matthew Broderick) and Buddy(Danny Devito) whostart out as friendly, but soon become competitive on who is better atbeing Mr. Christmas, soon the season does not seem to jolly anymore, much of the dismay and annoyance of there families. I wouldn't callthis film the greatest, if I were to compare it with ELF(2003), I 'dsay ELF would win that round, but if I were to compare it ChristmasWith The Kranks(2004), I'd say Deck The Halls wins by a long shot.

It was truly horrible and if it were put out by a department store..Id be demanding my money back!I wish they could put out another Miracle on 34th street or even a Home Alone with a true heart warming theme to it. This was so trashy it made you sick and there was no reason for it! Just rent a Christmas movie if this is all we have to go see this year.

If I could give this movie no stars, I would! Bad, lame, boring, cheap and annoying! Deck the Halls is possibly the worst Christmas movie I have ever seen in my entire life! It was boring, and had no point or story line! Dont waste your time snuggling in front of the fire watching this junk!

This review is from: Deck The Halls (Amazon Instant Video) This is one of those silly, fun Christmas movies that both adults and children enjoy watching every year. It is similar to Christmas with the Kranks and Jingle All the Way. It does not deserve a complete 5 stars since it is not in the same category as It's a Wonderful Llife, but I decided to give them anyway because in our house this film is considered a Christmas classic.

This movie was boring and full of crude humor and sexual remarks thatare unnecessary for family viewing. There were three preteen boys andone girl with me. The boys were embarrassed. Two of them highlydisliked the movie. The cross-dressing, the boob shots, the admirationfrom married dads of their daughter's legs and bottoms, the commentsmade all throughout the movie referring to sex, was sickening. One ofthe boys was a guest of ours. I should have left, but my son wasembarrassed to stay or to leave. Not wise on my part to not read thereviews first and very foolish of movie makers to assume that everyfamily loves entertainment only if it contains crude humor, sexualreferences, and other unacceptable viewing. Believe it or not, there arestill some of us adults who don't appreciate the crude humor. What everhappened to responsible, respectable movies ? The actors seemed sleepy, too . I was thoroughly disappointed in this movie and its contents.Very much a B rated movie with little to no joyful Christmas spirit, depressing. The ending was the best part of the movie. I learned alesson. Always read the review and go with your gut when picking amovie. I almost passed. Should have listened to my Spirit and passed.

Matthew Broderick plays an anal retentive eye doctor who lives forChristmas. Danny DeVito moves in across the street and decides to putenough lights on his house so that it can be seen from space. Not thenightmare some reviews made it out to be this is a movie that shows toomany signs of being messed with. Its clear that the producers had noidea what type of movie that wanted to make. The style of comedy variesfrom scene to scene as do the performances as if they were going withwhat ever they wanted for that day.Matthew Broderick is awful as theuptight jerk who wants things a certain way for tradition. Its a badpart badly played. frankly why his family hadn't left him prior to thisis beyond me. DeVito as a super salesman who gets bored easily is fine(hence the lights). He's not the monster some have said and actuallyhas a character to play. The rest of the cast is fine doing what everthey are doing. More misfire than disaster, this is ultimately aforgettable movie- and one that could be remade into a a holidaysemi-classic in the right hands.

This movie started out with good intentions. The small town waslikable. With the actors in this movie I thought it would have beenmuch better. How sad that this movie had such a WEAK script and plotand far fetched situations like the way that DeVito 'sold' Broderick acar. There was no chemistry between the characters. Bad attempts atsubplots involving his relationship with Broderick's family were leftat mere attempts. I am a fan of Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation andwanted to see at least a Christmas 'decorating war' -this was not evenclose to the humor and great characters in 'vacation'. I will also behesitant to see another movie with DeVito and Matthew Broderick inthem.

... a mirthless comedy with Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick as warring neighbors, can be described as whatever is the opposite of a Christmas classic.

This review is from: Deck the Halls (DVD) This movie along with Battle of the Bulbs keep me in stitches. The competitive ideas these characters think of is priceless. Truly a hilarious movie.

Local eye doctor and Christmas expert Steve Finch (Matthew Broderick)wants an nice simple Christmas with his wife Kelly (Kristen Davis), hisdaughter Madison (Alia Shawkat) and his son Carter (Dylan Blue). Whenthe Finch family has new neighbors during the holidays, which they arethe Hall family. Buddy Hall (Danny DeVito), his wife Tia (KristenChenoweth) and their twin daughters, Ashley (Emily Aldridge) and Emily(Kelly Aldridge). Buddy is a pro salesman in a Car Dealershipdepartment but he quickly get bored with the previous jobs, he had.Buddy wants to do something totally different for Christmas, he has theidea to have many colorful Christmas lights on his house that they canbe seen from Space! Soon enough, it truly annoys Steve and he feelsthat Buddy will ruined his Christmas spirit. He decides to do whateverit takes to ruined Buddy's Christmas. Especially they competed againsteach other during the holidays.Directed by John Whitesell (Big Momma's House 2, Malibu's Most Wanted,See Spot Run) made an decent Christmas movie with some low-brow laughsand an few moments of mean-spirited gags. Broderick and DeVito arecertainly good in their roles. But the script could have been muchbetter, sometimes i wonder if the movie was meant to be darker attimes. Perphas the dirtiest joke in the movie, when Broderick andDeVito are amused (and probably turned-on) by watching live performanceof "Santa Baby", not realized in these short Christmas skirts andChristmas costumes is their daughters. But the worst thing about themovie is the Christmas lights, especially in DeVito's home in thepicture. After watching the movie, it kinda made me sick watching thesedifferent colors Christmas lights. Overall, "Deck the Halls" is fairlyamusing two-thirds of the way but the movie always goes overkill. Toobad with a brighter script, this feature could have been really good.Watchable but nothing memorable. (***/*****).

Like most Christmas gifts, I had high hopes that were dashed upon therocks of disappointment. Great cast yet poor execution and lame storyplot. The characters did not seem to have a chemistry with each other.Matthew Broderick and Kristin Davis did not mesh well as a marriedcouple. Danny DeVito and Kristen Chenoweth's characters were farfetched and completely unbelievable. I guess this was supposed to befunny in itself? This brings me to the lack of laughs. I found myselflooking for something funny half way through the movie since this wassupposed to be a comedy, but I never found it. This movie was verydisappointing and was a sad attempt at humor.

Every year there is a Christmas movie released, and it's always thetypical family friendly flick that gets pretty annoying andpredictable, in fact there really hasn't been any good Christmas moviespast Home Alone and Christmas Vacation. When I saw the trailer to Deckthe Halls, I was so excited, because I'm a fan of Danny and Matthew, they're both great comedic actors and this seemed like a great film forChristmas and how obsessive people are over the holidays.Steve is a family man who is intending to make the holidays brighterfor his depressed kids and over shadowed wife, he is also love by thecommunity. A new family moves in across the street, Buddy and hisfamily are genuinely nice people but rub Steve off the wrong way, especially since Buddy is upset that his house cannot be seen fromouter space and figures that Christmas lights will fix that problem. While all the other family members of both guys are getting alonggreat, the guys end up competing with each other to see who will be theChristmas King of the town.Matthew and Danny who you'd think would be the perfect comedic duoactually didn't spark anything that grabbed me and the jokes werepretty predictable. While this movie was over all a slightdisappointment, actually, I'd say there are a few good little laughsher and there, it is a cute Christmas movie, but like I said, juststick with the classic Christmas comedies.5/10

Nothing says Christmas quite like incompetent slapstick, saccharine sermonizing, and cavernous cleavage.
