Fun, Modern Romantic Comedy

I am a little surprised by some of the negative reviews posted hereabout this movie. What did these people think they were going to see,Shakespeare? Ibsen? Shaw? Come on people, it is a romantic comedy, anda pretty good one at that. Clichéd? Uhhh, a romantic comedy is one bigcliché. Did anyone really think that ... SPOILER ALERT... they weren'tgoing to end up together at the end of the film???? If she died, or hegot hit by a bus, it would be a drama or tragedy, not a rom-com. Thetwo stars showed surprising chemistry in this film. Mila Kunis wasarticulate, funny, adorable, heck I fell in love with her. Plus shereally has a flare for comedic timing. If you compare this film to itsugly 2011 clone 'No Strings Attached', you start to wonder if the wrongactress from 'Black Swan' got the awards. Justin Timberlake was equallyeffective. I bought these two as a couple. The rest of the cast wascertainly up to the task. Patricia Clarkson seems to be gettingtype-cast as the kooky mother, and Richard Jenkins was good as theAlzheimer suffering, but endearing father. Woody Harrelson turned his 5minutes of screen time into another over-the-top performance. Over all, this is a slight, fun, modern (plenty of swearing) romantic comedy, filled with enough cultural references that it will feel dated in 10years. It doesn't pretend to be high art, and you shouldn't judge itthat way either.

Just another Justin awful acting

Justin has always is an awful actor, he should have stuck at wannabe singer. Mila is just an average, this movie is boring and stupid.

Full of laughs

Simple story line...no surprises. Much funnier that expected. Full of laughs throughout! Justin and Mila were great together. I started laughing early on and it did not stop. I was expecting a B- or C+ movie and got an A!

DVD case came destroyed

This review is from: Friends with Benefits (DVD) When I received the DVD in the mail, the plastic DVD case was completely destroyed. The whole top half of the case was in 20+ pieces and a crack went down the side casing. The DVD was unharmed but if better packaging and handling measure had been taken, I would also have a case for the movie.

Above Average RomCom With Hints It Could Have Been More

*Friends With Benefits Review*So we watched _Friends With Benefits_ last night. It's good date night material being primarily a romantic comedy. Of course you basically know what you're going to get with this sort of thing. And really there were no great surprises. Mainly the thin plot is carried by the charisma of the two leads, who did a good job I thought of making you want to like them.In the early stages it was a bit _edgier_ than the average romcom which was fun, but that did rather fizzle out later on. Leaving me to feel it could have been something more than it ended up being. The depictions of their frank sexual discussions early on about what they like or don't like probably rang more true than anything else in the movie. The dialogue was snappy too. More so than your average romcom and it makes a change from the endless parades of _dumb comedy_ movies. There were even some nice pop culture digs slipped in unobtrusively. But of course it ended up playing safe. They didn't stay as FWB. We knew they weren't going to. They felt something deeper. Etc. etc. That's fine. I enjoy sappy happy endings for this sort of movie anyway. But it does leave me wondering where they could have gone with it if they didn't have to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Ehh, it was OK

Yes, I know it's a chick flick. But on a cross country flight, I had topick something to watch on the airplane seat screen, and already sawMoneyball the first couple hours of the flight, so I gave this a try. Ican't stand Justin Timberlake, and quite honestly he seems like anothergay guy unsuccessfully trying to pass off as a straight guy, but MilaKunis is still a hottie, so at least there's some eye candy. The movieis supposed to rip on romantic comedies, but quickly becomes the verything it rips on. It gets quite predictable, and anyone in the audiencecould have written the ending for it. Also it's more than obvious thata few L.A. locations were trying to be passed off as New York (like theairport scenes). Overall not the worst movie ever, but pretty muchforgettable.

How to sell the same product again to the same person.

Yes, the movie made money. Yes, it was filmed in L.A. and N.Y. - whereelse, duh! Yes, the old salesmen trick of repackaging the same productto sell to the same schmuck by changing the packaging a little works asusual and always has and always will. So what do the cloisteredwriters, producers and directors in N.Y. & L.A. do with their liveswell, sit in little pretend manly cubicles trying to tweak anotherdollar out of the rom-com boxed-in consumer. What is the formula that'stweaked? Middle class white professionals that cuss a lot to blufftoughness; sex dominates their discussions; monetary self interestdominates their social consciousness; parties, bars and objects-du-jour their support system. What's tweaked? Change an actor or twobut not too many; change an office/occupation but not too many; changethe social scenes but not too many. Everything else stays the samepredictable self including the ending. Ah hah moment, the monetarycomfort of predictability in exchange for the psychological comfort ofpredictable fantasy.

Is This The Optimal Way To Date?

I've decided to take a different spin on Friends With Benefits thanmost of the other reviews I've seen. Essentially Timberlake and Kunis'characters decide they are sick of the typical path that occurs whencouples date. So they decide to be friends who simply have sex with nostrings attached. This dating style allows the two to be completelyhonest with each other in what each likes and dislikes both sexuallyand personally. As it turns out, they become the perfect fit for eachother. Unfortunately neither sees this and they consider dating otherpeople because both feel what they are doing cannot last. I think formany people this is the best way to date! If you go into a relationshipwith the idea it will just be fun, you end up being yourself. Youimmediately get comfortably sexually, which can be intimidating if yougradually dated trying to get to know each other first. As for the movie, the storyline was fresh and Timberlake and Kunis hadgreat chemistry which is what you want out of a romantic comedy. A lotof the comedy poked fun at the stereotypical romantic comedy and thenth movie when ahead and used those stereotypes to move the storylineahead toward the end of the film...pretty genius actually. A greatmovie to watch with your significant other. Rating 7 of 10 stars.

Funny!

This review is from: Friends With Benefits (Amazon Instant Video) A funny, modern romantic comedy. The plot is pretty predictable but Kunis and Timberlake have enough chemistry together to make the movie enjoyable.

Why did i expect more?

I saw the advert for this on TV and thought that this could havepotential to watch with my girlfriend so we went to see it. Ohh how iwas wrong, i can honestly say i can't think of a worse film i have seenall year. The acting was terrible the storyline was predictable theediting was shocking too.The whole film seems rushed in the sense that for the 1st 20mins theconversation is back and forth so fast it all drowns in to one monotonenoise. It does ease off a bit towards the end but it was too little toolate.I can see JT being in films as a cameo role but to be a lead actor thattakes some acting talent which he has none of.I want the 90mins back of my life.

BORING *** PREDICTABLE *** LAME

Deja vu all over again .. gee, does sex affect a relationship? I think a studio loved the name "NSA" and decided to throw in a couple of bubble gum "stars" and voila we have a tedious, boring, totally predictable movie. The jokes are a bad regurgitation of every romantic comedy of the past 4 years or so. What a total waste of money.

YAWN!!!!!!!

This review is from: Friends With Benefits (Amazon Instant Video) You know it's not a good sign when you keep wishing a movie would end already. I cannot believe this drivel actually made it out of the movie studio. No strings attached was so much better.

Great Surprise

Witty dialogue mixes with attractive people giving solid performances. Of course u know what's going to happen at the end but remarkably, this intelligently written film makes the entire journey worthwhile enough to buy the DVD. Great look at my old hometown NYC. Timberlake continues to convince he's a serious actor, Kunis is always delightful and the viewer gets an eyeful of her small and shapely behind au naturale, as well as her ability to stay the course and entertain as an actress portraying the "modern" girl struggling to overcome "what happens naturally."I thought the inclusion of Timberlake's character's father as suffering form the onset of Alzeimers laudable, and Justin doesn't overplay the part emotionally, which was a relief in a Hollywood thats normally eager to let sobs and tears act as the panacea for dealing with all life's emotional issues. I felt Woody Harrelson's character - not his acting - was annoying in that it's becoming so de rigeur for Hollywood to pat-on-the-back every man obsessed with other men's genitals. This MUST BE APPLAUDED BY US ALL, or you are a primitive, horrible person (whose name will soon be on some government list, no doubt) with no understanding of our human diversity. Harrelson's character dutifully fulfills his self-acceptance as a gay man by continuing to let everyone know he is not ashamed of it, as we - the audience - are culturally trained to accept and applaud.

A Terrific Date Movie

FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS is a totally predictable, albeit totally delightful, romantic comedy that succeeds thanks to a witty script, spry direction and a very likable cast.Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis are "best friends" who each have had difficulty with past romantic relationships and want to avoid emotional pain in the future. Both, however, have their sexual needs, so they agree to become "friends with benefits"; sex partners without any emotional commitment. How this relationship is going to end up is obvious from the start, but the fun is in getting there. The supporting players in this film certainly contribute to make it special. Patricia Clarkson plays Mila's wandering mother, a fugitive from the 1970s who has not changed her ways and is unsure as to which of her myriad lovers fathered her daughter. Richard Jenkins is Justin's father, suffering from Alzheimer's, and Woody Harrelson is Timbelake's openly gay co-worker. Also in the cast is Emma Stone, Andy Samberg and Jenna Elfman.Director Will Gluck co-wrote the screenplay with Keith Merryman and David A. Newman, who along with Harley Peyton, developed the story.Extras on the DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment audio commentary with Gluck, Timberland and Kunis, deleted scenes and outtakes.FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS is a terrific date movie.© Michael B. What? Why?

Slow-moving. Not funny. Watched first 20 minutes. Couldn't take it anymore. Got to the point when Justin took door off his office to tell his new staff that his door is "always open". Oh brother.

A funny sexy movie with lots of laughs

I thought this would be a chick flick but I watched it with my wife to be nice. I loved it! It is a sexy and funny story with a life lesson from dad included. The lead actress, Mila Kunis, is a cute doll and plays the role to perfection. Justin Timberlake does his usual great job playing the funny guy. It is like one of his Saturday Night Live skits but it is the length of a movie. This is a really good movie and a good love story about finding the right one. Did I say funny? I laughed throughout the entire movie. It even has touching moments regarding family love and caring for an elder father. Watch it, you will enjoy it!

amazing movie!!!!!

This review is from: Friends With Benefits (Amazon Instant Video) hilarious, i laughed the whole time! i definitely recommend this movie to everyone who wants a romantic comedy!! i only rented the movie, but its really worth buying!

Pretty good rom com

The two actors are very appealing in this story of a man and woman who want to be friends who have sex but who do not fall in love or have any further attachments. As you can imagine, the plans go awry. There is also the sadder aspect of the man's father having ALZ, but this ties in with what he eventually learns about himself and about love. This will not be a good choice, though, for those put off by the raw sex talk and R-rated language.

Friends With Benefits

Friends with Benefits was a great movie. One of the funniest romantic comedies. Natale Portman may have stole the show in black swan but when it comes to romantic comedies Mila Kunis takes the cake. This movie is definetly a MUST see, it was way better then No Strings Attached, and really showed off Mila Kunis's incredible talent.

So frustrating. Another FLOP of a movie for 2011.

I was greatly disappointed with this film. I worked myself up to watching this for a good laugh and it was just drawn out, boring and I didn't care for the chemistry. So far worst movies of 2011: Cowboys & Aliens, Captain America and NOW Friends With Benefits. Don't waste your time or energy on any of this movies.
