STAR RATING: ***** Saturday Night **** Friday Night *** Friday Morning** Sunday Night * Monday Morning Nick (Jason Bateman) has his heart set on promotion at work, but findshis psychotic boss Mr. Harken (Kevin Spacey) has taken it for himself, and leaves him in no uncertain terms he'll make his life hell if hekicks up any trouble. Things aren't much better for his friend Dale(Charlie Day) who's being sexually harassed by his boss (JenniferAniston) who's able to manipulate him at her whim. And the same goesfor Kenny (PJ Byrne) who's forced to contend with his new boss, thecrass, moronic son of the guy he used to work for. Altogether, theseguys conspire to make their lives better and kill the bosses who aremaking their lives so unbearable. Needless to say, they have troublepulling this off...If there's one thing a lot of people can relate to more than anythingat the moment, especially in a day and age where a poor and uncertaineconomic climate is forcing them to stay in jobs they can no longerbear, it's hating their bosses, especially if they're completelyunbearable people. So director Seth Gordon has an inspired concept athand with this tale of a group of men who're driven to try and makethem pay the ultimate price. Of course, being a film and with theprimary purpose of providing entertainment value, these boss charactersare exaggerated caricatures (the slave driver, the ball buster etc.)and this is the type of comedy film that's been doing the rounds a lotlately, with the typical sort of gross out, facile humour that modernaudiences love (including 'Hornblower' star Ioan Gruffold as a man whooffers a very particular (but unclear) service over the internet) thatis consistent, but gets lost over the course of a wavey plot thatmeanders and loses it's flow a little, leaving the experience not quitethe sum of it's parts.Cast wise, Spacey surprises as the funniest, another ability to hisdramatic range, while as HB No. 2, Aniston turns what should be everyguy's fantasy into a warped nightmare. Colin Farrell can do comedy, asIn Bruges proved, but his screen time here is a bit limited and heisn't really given enough time and material to make the most of hischaracter. With regards the three put upon protagonists, the set up isalmost identical to The Hangover, with three unknowns playing the leadswho most of the comedic escapades hang on, and while the results aren'tquite as successful, Horrible Bosses is still more than a good laughand a really clever idea. ***

Finally a great movie idea hasn't been wasted on a slapdash script, poor directing, and unworthy actors. Instead Director Gordon and hisscreenwriters have contrived a new kind of buddy comedy so ridiculouseveryone can relate to it. This is achieved by the smartest casting ofthe year seamlessly balancing the star power of the protagonists(Bateman, Sudeikis and Day) and antagonists (Spacey, Farrel, andAniston). Both parties are worthy of the audience's attention with eachstar distinguishing his or her self from the other with a uniqueformula of hilarity. TO make things even better Jamie Foxx can do nowrong with his portrayal of murder consultant MF.Everything is very smooth throughout the majority of the film until theclimax is reached and the resolution takes place. Gordon directs a veryclever film up to this point connecting all of the characters andexpressing the audience's concerns, but when it begins to conclude thefilm is very lazy. A disconnect sets in that is not necessarily cliché,it just should have been much better. Also, Jennifer Aniston's sexualperformance is so over-the-top viewers will either love it or hate it.

This review is from: Horrible Bosses (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) (DVD) The bosses(Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell) are terrific. It's their whiny minions that are annoying. I'm on the fence with this one. As shock comedy goes this is pretty mundane. As a workplace comedy it could have used the subtlety of "Office Space". Really, to be harassed by Aniston is a real stretch to the imagination. She's never been sexier. I will also mention that Jamie Foxx is pretty good as the hired "hit man". He's not good enough for me to recommend this movie, however.

Horrible bosses is black comedy movie about three guys who hate theirbosses, so they come up with a plan to kill their bosses. I won't gointo more detail, but I can tell you this movie is superb. THescreenplay and directing are fantastic, but what makes this movieawesome is the acting.Jason Bateman: Jason Bateman is the serious one of the group but isalso has few jokes up his sleeve.Jason Sudiekies: Jason S. is the sex crazed jokester of the group.Charlie Day: Charlie Day is definitely the standout of the movie.Charlie Day is really what makes this movie great. Nothing is funnierthan a person acting funny but not meaning to be funny. The bosses are also amazing with Aniston being the standout. This movie is definitely the movie of the summer in my opinion.

I only found out about Horrible Bosses just recently and decided togive it a watch this weekend. I needed a good laugh after the week Ihad. I must say that I laughed, but not hysterically or anything. The film centers around three guys: Nick, Dale and Kurt; who hate theirbosses and wants them dead. This sounds like a premise for apsychological thriller but it's actually a comedy... an adolescentcomedy but a comedy. One boss played by Kevin Spacey (the best part ofthe movie) is such a jerk, that he's more of a bully than a boss. Healso suspects his young hot wife of cheating on him, and this could bepart of why he's so angry all the time. The other boss, played byJennifer Aniston, wants to seduce Dale who is trying to be faithful tohis fiancé. Then there's Donald Sutherland.... who isn't a jerk but hedies and the company is left to his cokehead son (Colin Farrell) whojust wants to sabotage the company for his own personal gain.Part of the comedy is how they try to kill their bosses which is allpart of the comedy. It has a nice few twist and turns in the story, andhonestly I wasn't sure how it would all end. Another great addition tothe film is Jamie Foxx who acts as their murder consultant. He lookedlike he was having a lot of fun with the role, and it was fun to watchhim.Horrible Bosses is a funny film, but I didn't think it was a hilariousfilm. It's enough to go see it, but I doubt it would reach The Hangoverstandards with people so don't expect a sequel. The best part of thismovie is that they refrained from using Ken Jeong, who is gettingtypecast lately. Kevin Spacey is worth seeing this film alone. For thatI recommend it.

This review is from: Horrible Bosses (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) (DVD) This movie was unexpectedly funny, close up there with other classic comedies. I would highly recomend this to anyone that is looking for a great laugh. Jennifer Anniston may have stole the show with her "out of character" acting....overall - HYSTERICAL!

This is the worst movie I have seen in a long time. The "humor" (such as it is) is very low-brow. Writers actually got paid for creating this script? Amazing...What I can't figure out is how they got Keven Spacey to agree to be in such a crappy movie. So NOT recommended.

What could have been a superior black comedy about every white collarworkers dream disintegrates into a standard TV style movie thats longon raunch and foul language, and short on laughs. Before my review getspulled for "abuse",heres the basic premise. In a nutshell, some officeworkers deceide to murder their bosses cuz they feel that their liveswould be a lot better with them gone, then when things take a wrongturn, the desperation of the workers-and the screenwriter begin toshow. "Borrowing" elements of some of Hitchcocks best work, the storyquickly fizzles out as film takes the shortcut to predictability andmediocrity. . Cast is only so-so, but Kevin Spacey seems to bechanelling his "American Beauty" role. Bateman and others are quiteforgettable and Jennifer Aniston-possibly the worst non actress of thisdecade goes against type and plays a slutty skanky role that thedirector hoped would give this film some "balls", but all she seems todo is alienate and repel the audience even further. The only way Icould recommend this movie to you is to try to sneak into it at somemultiplex and wait until the film you really want to see starts, thatis, of course if you can find one that is actually worth seeing. If youremember the early 80s "Nine to Five" that movie pretty much had thesame premise as this with some funny fantasy sequences too. I'll leaveyou, dear readers to deceide which is the better one-think DollyParton. Thank God that I get to see these movies for free. Being acritic does have its rewards, but unfortunately I have not beenrewarded with any decent movies lately. If you must pay good money tosee this turkey- especially in this Obama economy -demand a refund!

I had some expectations going to see this movie, hoping for somethinglike Office Space. I was disgustingly disappointed. The movie is full of stereotypes, and they are all extremelyexaggerated - but that's not why this movie is a complete waste oftime. It is because the characters are also written to be completemorons: they do and say things that no real person would ever say ordo. They are unbelievable to say the least. It's pointless as a movie. It could have been a 10 min SNL sketch - that would have been fine. Butnot a full length movie. The only thing good about the movie was thatSteve Wiebe had a small role. Seth Gordon should stick to documentaries- because at least then he can find some real people. It made me feel disgusted and annoyed, and if you have half a brainyou'll pick another movie. There are quite a few to choose from youknow.

Movies with the most hilarious seeming concept often produce the mostdisappointing results. Such is the case of Horrible Bosses, a filmabout three blundering idiots who decide to kill their own bosses whomake each of their lives a living hell. The three leads are JasonBateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis, a trio that can deliverplenty of funny lines and dish out some amusing banter, but lack a lotof chemistry to make them a believable trio of friends. The bosses areplayed by Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Colin Farrell who I cansay all make entertaining, albeit over-the-top, villains. HorribleBosses is good for a few laughs, but not much else. The premise of the film is really what drew me into this film alongwith the cast which I am a big fan of except for Jennifer Aniston whowas surprisingly one of the better characters in the film. Anyways, this film has a premise that is a bit ridiculous but has the potentialto deliver some hysterical scenarios. Horrible Bosses doesn't reallytake advantage of this and ends up being another generic comedy thatjust goes through the motions of a sub-par gag flick. It is an R ratedfilm so thankfully it doesn't have to hold back on the raunchiness, paving the way for a lot more laughs than a PG-13 stamp would havemerited.Horrible Bosses is really nothing more than a middle of the road comedythat you won't remember long after you see it. It's simple minded andunoriginal, never tossing in a plot point that will throw you for aloop. You can easily predict everything before it happens and there'snothing that will really take you by surprise. It's a film that offerstoo many easy solutions to difficult situations and problems, cheatingitself out of more hilarious scenarios that could have gotten a muchbigger laugh. The story line offers up problems and then shoots themdown with incredibly simplistic and unbelievable solutions thathighlight the film's laziness and drain it of its creativity. It hurtsto watch this film commit comedic suicide, but you have to sit back andwatch it anyways.I'll admit that I laughed at Horrible Bosses and I didn't hate the filmbut it really just doesn't have much to offer. I feel like this filmcould have been a lot better but due to its lack of creativity and thesevere absence of originality this film has joined the ranks of all theforgettable comedies that we see so that we can laugh once or twice andthen move on with our lives. It won't be long until I forget I ever sawHorrible Bosses and I certainly won't be talking about this one with myfriends.

Interesting formula: Take Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train from way back in the 50s, add in equal amounts of Danny DeVito's 1987 spoof of that movie called Throw Momma From a Train, then mix 'em both with a whopping helping of Hangover humor and that sets the stage for the dark comedy Horrible Bosses. But it wouldn't be the complete movie that it is without the absolutely perfect cast who act their own parts out with perfection, but also exhibit a chemistry together that is unparalleled in any movie that I've recently seen. And hats off to the writer/producer/director team for putting together a familiar story line that is ultimately pulled off with originality, and most importantly, hilarity from start to finish. The humor is often rude, crude and probably a bit more than the average Jennifer Aniston movie fan bargained for. However I give Aniston a ton of credit for for adding to the success of this film by effortlessly making her character believable, funny and shocking. After all the goody two-shoes roles that I'm used to seeing Aniston in, watching her in a "bad girl" role only made the movie more refreshing and entertaining.Colin Farrell was another great cast as one of the Horrible Bosses. He's transformed into a pot-bellied, balding drug addict and almost unrecognizable a la Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. Farrell is Jason Sudeikis' boss. Kevin Spacey is Jason Bateman's boss, and Spacey is a natural crass meanie. Then Anistion is a the boss of a comical Charlie Day. The individual bosses deal out their own styles of harassment on the job and it's all darkly hysterical. So the three guys are given the notion that they could take each other's bosses out to make their lives easier. The events following this brainstorm of an idea are equally dark and laugh out loud funny. If you're looking for laughs you'll find them o'plenty in Horrible Bosses. Perhaps over the top at times (but that's what the movie is going for), Horrible Bosses is one of the best movies that I've seen in 2011.

Nothing special here. Weak plot. Very weak in fact. It's about as thinas you can get in regards to propelling a movie forward. Thankfully, there are a few comedy worthy performances that keep the movie goingforward. Colin Farrell as a coked up boss with an overcomb. JenniferAniston as a sex crazed dental hygienist. The 3 main charactersthemselves are fairly uninteresting, with nigh implausible incentivesto wish murder upon someone. I mean come on, wishing murder upon anattractive dentist because she wants to have sex with you. Really? Infact, Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx were probably one of the fewsaving graces of this film. Kevin Spacey played his role to a tee.Other than that, I would recommend this film to friends who are fans ofthe show Friends. That is, check out Jennifer Anniston like you'venever seen here before. Unfortunately her role was a fairly minor one.The ending itself was another all too convenient affair. All in all, amovie that fell flat short of it's intended goal.

Saw this movie when it came out in the theaters and have been waiting for the DVD release! This is pee-your-pants funny with an outstanding over-the-top cast. Is it a bit far-fetched? As Sarah Palin would say, you betcha...but most comedies are, and the cast pulls this story off with tongue firmly in cheek. Some of the A list talent in this movie (that are all playing second fiddle roles) are so far removed from what you'd expect is what really sets this apart from The Hangover. This is must see!

Bad Bosses is a okay movie. I liked it. However, I do not know how wellthe movie will age? Like most comedies, in five years the movie couldbe lame. Horrible Bosses' thesis where people feel like they can killtheir awful bosses resonates with the audience. Everyone, has had a badboss like in the film and has empathy for the characters. The threeprotagonists are goofs who total screw up when trying to plan a hit.Aniston plays the psycho sexually harassing boss to the letter. Themovie is a fish out of water comedy. The Prius drag racing excuse ishilarious! Kevin Spacey plays a good antagonist. Spacey helps create astrong ending for the film. I give Horrible Bosses a six or seven outof ten.

This review is from: Horrible Bosses (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) (DVD) The premise may sound hilarious, and it may sound stupid, depending on the individual, but if you can appreciate the humor in laughing at people whose intentions are never carried out in the right way, then you will love Horrible Bosses. It has a lot of swearing and a lot of adult concepts, but the funny is so nicely tied in with all the crude humor that it was hardly noticeable. Yes, not everything that was said, especially by the "maneater" and "tool" was politically correct, but the humor came out of their employees - who know that they shouldn't say or do those things - reacting to the awfulness that is their employers. Very funny. Charlie Day stole the show for me, but the entire cast has chemistry that shines through onscreen. Great casting, great writing, great movie.

98 min of comic, blunders and show of pervert boss. Aniston comes out of her comfort zone unlike other movies and did thestuff she isn't really known for. Any way the acting was classic. Thethree bosses are nothing other than a douchebag, slutty and Psychopath.Even though the Comedy is mostly dirty but a good time pass. The plot is flooded with the twist and turns. In total the movie isunpredictable that makes it different from the others of its class. Some scenes like one coating boss's toothbrush with his arse, Aniston'sfoul mouth and her hunger for sex make you roll on the floor laughing.Lets have some critics eye here now, the story wasn't really thatgreat. Even the scenes would have better linkage between them. At somescenes you will be frustrated.

I have to say that maybe expectations played too large a role but thisfilm is no where near as funny or as good as I was hoping it would be.While not bad, it ran rather generic and was predictable all the waythrough. The cast was good and there are a few scenes that illicit agood chuckle or two. Most of the funny stuff was right there in thetrailer and ALL of the frustratingly brief sexy Jennifer Aniston stuffwas also shown in the trailer. The abbreviated roles of all the bossesare a big let down. Still, Jason Bateman is perfect and felt exactlylike his character stepped out of "Arrested Development" and thatcertainly is in his wheelhouse. Overall, I stayed interested and had afew chuckles nothing more but nothing less.

Lets start of by saying that before I've watched this movie, TheHangover was honestly my favorite movie, but this is not just the bestmovie i've seen since The Hangover, it's my new favorite movie, I canproudly say that this movie is better than The Hangover. First, it has one of the great casts ever, Jason Bateman, from CouplesRetreat, Arrested Development, The Switch, Juno..., Jason Sudekis, fromWhat Happens In Vegas, from an episode of It's Always Sunny inPhiladelphia, from Going the Distance and from some other movies andCharlie Day is the other guy that completes the main cast, which turnedout to be probably the most funny guy in this movie, he was nosurprise, because if you saw him in Going the Distance and It's AlwaysSunny in Philadelphia, you wood understand, because Charlie rocked inthis movie. The bosses cast is also amazing, it includes Kevin Spaceyfrom several great movies, Colin Farell, which is also in several greatmovies, and the same thing about Aniston, who played the best role ofher career, at least I think that way.Nick (Bateman), Kurt (Sudeikis) and Dale (Day), have all of them, onehorrible boss, who are Nick's boss, Harken (Spacey), who's a Psycho,Kurt's boss Bobby Pellit (Farell), who's a Tool and Dale's boss, JuliaHarris (Aniston), who's a Maneater. Dale, Kurt and Dale just hate theirbosses a lot, but everyone of them have a reason to can't quit theirjobs, Dale is in the Child Sex Offenders list and the rest of the guyscan't quit because they know a role model of a role model of a firedperson, who appears that be fired is not good it all. After being drunkat the bar, Nick, Kurt and Dale come up with the idea that wood makethem happy forever after, which is to kill their bosses, it was onlynecessary another day of work to make them want to do that, so afterhaving all figured out, they hire a hit-man, Dean Jones/MF Jones(Foxx), a guy who as been in jail for some years. Jones was onlyarrested because he committed piracy, so he will only tell some advicesto the three folks and they will have to murder their bosses withoutnow one doing the job for them. The plan is flawless, but the personswho are going to make it done... are not.Can you see how clever the story of the movie was? I mean, this was nocopy to any movie, this was actually an excellent idea, who in theworld wood come up with idea of making a movie about three guys whoplan to kill their awful bosses, cause who did, invented the story fora movie that has smart jokes, very smart jokes and lots of them, it hasa great cast, it's very entertaining and it's someone's favorite movie, such as me. The best movie ever, 100% recommended. Grade: A+.

I looked forward to seeing HORRIBLE BOSSES when I first saw the coming attraction trailer. What a great cast and everyone can relate to having a horrible boss or two in his or her career. The reviews were not so positive and I decided to wait for the DVD release. I know some reviewers loved the movie but I thought it was exceptionally vulgar and a total disappointment. It didn't fit the recent run of similar movies where the crass humor is funny and silly in a harmless way. I thought it would be fun to see good girl Jennifer Aniston in a bad girl role, but nothing seemed to work in this film.Three best friends set out to rid themselves of their horrible bosses. Along the way, they come in contact a "killer" played by Jamie Foxx. His character's name is so wildly vulgar and in bad taste that the name cannot even be mentioned in the review. The name becomes an ongoing joke. Kevin Spacey is the boss from hell..much like his character in SWIMMING WITH SHARKS. Jason Bateman, Colin Farrell and Donald Sutherland are also great actors whose talents are wasted in the film. Farrell plays completely against his sexy image and is almost unrecognizeable as another horrible boss.Charlie Day is the dental assistant being sexually harassed by the overly sexual dentist played by Jennifer Aniston. I had never seen Charlie Day before and I enjoyed his character at first until he started sounding more and more like Bobcat Goldthwait in his mutterings. Another actor wasted in this film.In the beginning as we are introduced to characters, there is a freeze-frame and words describing the character appear on screen. It's a silly trick that maybe have been novel in the 1970's. It only seemed to lower the seriousness of the film.I had hoped for a silly and funny movie but it turned out to be a silly and stupid film.
