Inferior to the first one (itself nothing special) but not as bad as I expected

Even though the original 'Johnny English' wasn't that acclaimed by thepublic, they still made a sequel out of it. I must say, I expected thissequel to be much worse. Surprisingly, it wasn't. That's not to saythat this is a good film. No way, far from ever being such a thing. Ifnothing else, at least this is good to give some silly laughters. In the beginning, Johnny English seems smarter than in the first filmbut as it runs he turns out to be just as silly as before, if not more. There are some fun moments, such as: Johnny English chasing thatChinese guy always with the biggest calm while the Chinese guy runs andruns and English always manages to trick him; English's fireworks joke;English's sarcastic line «Yeah, you wish!» to the Prime-Minister, notrealizing he is the real Prime-Minister; English's chair constantlygoing up and down; English calling Shushan to that guy wearing a suitwith the name of a certain Susan; English assaulting Pegasus's mothertwice, both times mistaking her for the killer cleaner; Englishassaulting the Queen, mistaking her with the damn killer cleaner;English obtaining Simon's pistol only to fall off the cable-car becauseof his own stupidity; English drinking the spiked drink and notrealizing until it's too late; English's attempts to resist the effectsof the drug; English's eye blinking whenever he hears the nameMozambique; some jokes similar to those seen in the first one.The fact that Rowan Atkinson and Tim McInnerny are in this is almostlike having Blackadder and Captain Darling/Percy reunited in the samemovie, LOL.I've got one question, though: how can a woman be named Pegasus? Thatwas the name of the "head" of MI7 in the original film.Rowan Atkinson, despite the effort, is beginning to look tired of thiskind of movies and roles.

One great comedy!

Okay, I just saw Johnny English Reborn. It was excellent as a comedy. It had lots of funny moments.I'll be clear: it's not the best movie I've ever seen, but, as Ialready said, it was excellent as a comedy. It is even better than thefirst Johnny English film, however, I'm a bit disappointed that theydidn't include Bough from the first film.Rowan Atkinson's performance was, of course, brilliant. All the otheractors also acted great, and I have nothing against this funny, greatcomedy.I highly recommend this movie because it is obviously worth seeing!

Annoying and Unfunny

Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) is retired in Tibet and in disgrace inMI- 7 after a washed up mission in Mozambique. Out of the blue, he issummoned by the MI-7 to stop the Vortex, an agency of skilled assassinsthat are planning to kill the Chinese premier Xiang Ping. JohnnyEnglish is back in action with the support of the rookie Agent Tucker(Daniel Kaluuya). But he is betrayed by someone that he would neverexpect. The first "Johnny English" is a very funny parody of 007 movies. I hadgreat expectations with "Johnny English Reborn", but unfortunately itis an annoying and unfunny. The character performed by Rowan Atkinsonis too stupid and his excessive imbecilities are irritating. The writerhas exaggerated in his parody and the result is terrible. My vote isfour.Title (Brazil): "O Retorno de Johnny English" ("The Return of JohnnyEnglish")

A real let down!

I really like Rowan Atkinson and most of his work. That's probably whyI expected a lot from this movie. If you're 14 years old and are intowatching corny movies with your friends this movie might be for you, ifnot AVOID! All the ''jokes'' have been done many times before and youcan see them coming for miles. It's not a spy movie(i.e. exciting),it's not a comedy(i.e. funny), it's nothing really. I got really boredafter 15 minutes and was looking at my watch through the whole movieand once again I'm really into Mr. Bean and Rowans other characters.Rowan looked tired, the film looked tired, everything about this wholemovie looked worn-out. A real shame for such a great character likeRowan but no more Johnny English please!

479th Review: Honestly, the ideal film for airflights. Well, I slept through it.....

Johnny English Reloads starts strongly with Atkinson in a TibetanMonastery (a good staple if ever there was), but as the plot unfolds soit unravels and becomes pretty montone - they're just simply aren'tenough ideas to sustain a full film. What we get isn't dreadful, but it really isn't much fun or that either- it spends most of its time pastichng the spy genre which is fairlyfunny but Bond did it better itself. This will be a commercial success as it is just exciting andinoffensive enough to be suitable for every flight ever, but it lacksthe wonderful creative spark that he, Curits, and Driscoll bought to MrBean - it is chiefly guilty, and I never thought I'd bring this chargeagainst Rowan Atkinson whose Secret Policeman's Ball et al are some ofthe best of British comedy of the past thirty years, of beingunimaginative, turgid, and often resorts to the sort of humour thatjust makes you smirk. It's the trading of originality for something too safe that makes thissellable, but it also makes it very dull indeed.

OK OK, feel good movie.

OK, yeh that's the right word for movie. You see Mr. Atkinson (Mr. Bean) & expect something, which he delivers so so n so well (Like Mr. Bean)But the plot & other things in movie are really not that good. I wasexpecting a big plot, lots of humor, but movie doesn't show anythinglike this. Gags so called comedy scenes are old, you can easily predictthe humor. but few times in the movie, it is awesome !!!Why to see: good movie, surely one time watchable. Why Not: Not to the expectation , by story/screenplay and afterwatching First Johnny English, which was truly incredible.Final Verdict: Watchable, nothing much. Mr. Bean is surely incredible,he is the one to give credit for.

Better than the first, Johnny English Reborn has some funny moments, and Rowan Atkinson is good, but I expect and want more from this franchise.

There is no doubt Rowan Atkinson is a comedic genius, if you haven'tseen it yet, check out "Rowan Atkinson: Live" and the "Fatal Beatings"sketch in particular. He's great on television, yet, I don't like mostof his movies, I hated the first Bean movie, didn't like the second oneand I also did not like the first Johnny English. Johnny English Rebornhas some very funny moments, it's easily better than the first one,it's still not an excellent showcase for Atkinson's talents, it'sdefinitely enjoyable but for me, there weren't any big laughs, or justmany regular laughs. The jokes in the first one were so easy, andtelegraphed in such a way, that they set up the gag so obviously, you're just counting down to the predictable payoff, and there werenumerous of these, landing on the wrong building, mistaking the partnerfor the bad guy and such. Johnny English Reborn has some fresh ideas, yes, we get the old "mistaking other people for some bad guy andhurting them" which is repeated three times in this one, and that getsold, but the rooftop chase is funny and clever and completely on themoney as it satirizes the recent frantic and over the top Hollywoodchase scene, and it reminded me of the awesome but admittedlyridiculous Casino Royale chase at the building site. There are somefunny visual gags with a helicopter, and near the end we finally get tosee Atkinson doing some great physical comedy as he literally fightswith himself. Gillian Anderson and Dominic West are both good, andthankfully they do not try to be funny, they play it straight and letAtkinson provide the laughs. English has a new partner in this movie, and I liked him better than the previous one. I kind of liked JohnnyEnglish Reborn, it's definitely an improvement on the first one, no biglaughs, but I enjoyed it nevertheless, and if you want to see Atkinsonat his very best, go watch "Rowan Atkinson: Live" and see a genius atwork.

Thrilling movie with a lot funny scenes

The first 10 minutes aren't as funny as the scenes could have been, buti must say that the producers really managed to combine serious themessuch as spying and the death of people with very funny thing. In myopinion, the funniest scenes are those with the old Asian killer indifferent situations. What didn't like was that from a very earlymoment of time in the movie, you could say who the third member ofVortex was. but that also has a good side: it shows Johnnys(RowanAtkinson)stupidity. It was crystal clear that there were a lot ofsimilarities with some James Bond movies, such as Thunderball. Therewere also some scenes which were just hilarious, such as he scene withthe chair.

Very funny, lots of action

Johnny English is a comedy/action picture. It starts with him intraining in some sort of karate camp somewhere in the mountains inanother country. He had worked as a secret agent and was supposed to protect the leaderof another country but the leader was killed and he was blamed for notdoing his job right. He gets called back to work. Johnny is clumsy, tripping, banging his head, using the wrong secret weapons at the wrongtime or in the wrong way. There is a 3 piece key that every spy is looking for. A member of hisgroup is a traitor but no one know who it is. Johnny is really stupidbut gets the job done, somewhat like Peter Seller as InspectorClouseau. He also has a young black partner who is a lot smarter themhim. The movie has lots of action, jumping from building, car chases, shooting with special weapons etc.I think it is a good family movie but for older kids. There is noswearing or sex just lots of laughs. I enjoyed it.

A Must Watch Comedy !!

Well, I have seen a lot of comedy movies of recent times and found afew of them pretty interesting too.But this one is really unique byitself. Personally I have always loved watching Rowan Atkinson almostin every character he played so far.The unprecedented combination ofeccentricity and innocence along with genuine good intention alwaysdoes the trick for him. Those who had enjoyed Johny English Part I likethe way I did, they would certainly be overjoyed after watching thismovie. For all other people also, it's a must watch comedy. The majorimprovement in Johny's character which has been seen in this movie isthat unlike the part I, he has become more smart and almost nearlyapproaching towards being a good secret agent. His basic intention ofdoing something great has always been evident in past movies and thesame is reflected here too.The direction of this movie has beenexecuted outstandingly. Musical score is also commendable. All in all, what I can say is that it's better for my readers to go and immediatelywatch the movie than sitting and studying my review here.... :)

A really bad movie

I'm amazed. TRULY amazed how high this movie is scoring. It starts okay, a few laughs here and there the first 5 minutes, butthe jokes get really old and predictable really fast. It's almost as ifthe plot was written down on one A4 sheet, handed to Rowan and thentell him "Here, try and make this funny for us" And to give him some credit, he does an okay job, I smiled a lotthinking of how that scene reminded of Mr. Bean and how much funnierthat would have been.Don't watch it in the theater! Wait until some unsuspecting friendaccidentally rents it and you have absolutely nothing else to do exceptto watch that movie and wonder how and why this got made.I'll give it a 5 for a few laughs, but I laugh more at 30s clips onyoutube.

His name is Bean, James Bean

It took them quite some while to get the second movie going. But it'sfinally (?) here for everyone to enjoy. It is as another reviewerstated mindless fun, though you couldn't seriously expect anythingelse. I had some laugh out loud moments during the movie, even whenthere was quite a lot of silly going on.There are certain "theme alerts" (things getting kind of repeated) thatyou might like or sort of hate. But Rowan Atkinson (better known forhis Mr. Bean role) is quite the agile and fun actor and pulls itthrough. You also have some nice "guest stars" and some nice gadgets(as you would expect from a secret service agent). Enjoyable enough, ifyou don't have any expectations of it being more than just a sillycomedy

Were you expecting a masterpiece?

I certainly wasn't expecting a masterpiece. what I was expecting wasdumb humoured spy comedy, If you look at it that way then you willenjoy this movie if you have a similar sense of humour to me.Once reading some of the reviews that criticised this I felt I have tosay "were you expecting a masterpiece?" I mean this is the sort ofmovie that isn't by any means of the imagination a cinematicmasterpiece (unless there is a little kid watching) but if you look atit for what it is then you might actually enjoy this.I think that like the Austin Powers films this one attacks a wholeseries of clichés used in action films (in this movie the only chasescene comes to mind). This movie is one of those few sequels that are better than theoriginal and this movie does have the same sort of humour, if you wantto see a movie with different humour then you're not doing very well bylooking at the movies sequel. When watching, don't expect something film snobs will enjoycomedy-wise, just expect dumb humour.I watched the trailer presented on IMDb, the trailer here is AWFUL!just watch the Australian trailer just to show what it's Actually like

More great fun with our favourite bungling spy! Johnny English is back and just as great as ever!

Finally after a much long await of eight years, the nations favouritehopeless spy Johnny English gets his much deserved sequel, though notquite as excellent as the first this sequel is still very enjoyable.Johnny English Reborn is set five years after his adventure in thefirst. Hiding out shamelessly in a cave in Tibet Johnny is called backinto service by Her Majesty once again to foil international assassinsin their plot to terminate the Chinese premier. Rowan Atkinson proves once again why he is one our best comedy actors. He plays English down to a T and if one ever had any doubts if he wouldbe able to step back into the role after eight years, seeing thisshould wipe those doubts out of your mind. He gives a hilariousperformance all the way through aided by sketches of slapstick thoughpredictable are wondrous in their genius of timing. They are so welltimed just like in the first film, it makes it all the more hilariousthanks to a sharp and witty script. There are numerous funny sequences throughout,(which had me chucklingand shouting with laughter) with too many to pick from. But myfavourites would have to be when English mistakens his bosses mother asa Korean assassin and undoubtedly the best one, which had me cryingwith laughter and has already been identified with other audiencereviewers on here is the scene where English is in a briefing sittingon a chair, which he tries to adjust, breaks and ends up the chairrising up and down. Great performances are also supplied by Rosamund Pike as apsychologist, Daniel Kaluuya as Agent Tucker who though good isn't inthe same league as Bough (Ben Miller) and Dominic West as Ambrose.Johnny English Reborn is a hilarious spectacle from start to finish, that those who liked the first film or who are a fan of Rowan Atkinsonshould see. The nations favourite bungling spy is back!

Good Johnny English

Johnny English Reborn This Monday I had the opportunity to see JohnnyEnglish premiere, the long awaited sequel of Johnny English, which wasquite successful.Remaining faithful to the original premise, Johnny English plays MI7agent, which tends to be clumsy. However, there is a psychologicalevolution of the character, resulting from his period of spiritualdevelopment in Tibet. Older, he has less agility, but in the words ofthe spiritual leader, he "won wisdom." Thus, making use of it, tries toexpose the operation of attempted murder of the Chinese prime minister.Rowan Atkinson returns to play this character, showing more charm thanin the previous film, drinking inspiration from the first appearancesof James Bond. In fact, in my view, this is a film much closer to theline of 007 than the previous one, for several reasons. One is apsychologist from MI7, who befriends Johnny English, Rosamund Pike,Bond Girl in Die Another Day (2002), in which that film, she moves tothe villain side. Like many James Bond's fans thought at the time,Rosamund Pike gave a much better Bond Girl than Halle Berry. In thisfilm, justice is restored, and is given her a role that she plays quitewell. On the other hand, goes through various scenarios, and one of thescenarios with more climax, we have the Swiss Alps, bringing backmemories for fans of the Bond saga, created by the geographicalsimilarities with On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). With regardto mood, is a well disposed film that managed to wheedle several laughsto the public, even in scenes that tend to be more predictable. Although it contains some scenes that lack scientific rigor, and thatobviously could never happen in real life, they must be interpreted aspart of an action film and comedy, and are therefore admissible. In short, it's a good movie, great for a session to be with family, andI can only recommend to fans of the original.Note 8 / 10

Britain's Next Favourite Spy Is Back

Britain's beloved spy is back in Oliver Parker's new spy adventure'Johnny English Reborn'. Needless to say, the film spoofs the spyaction thriller genre (the first titles that pop in mind are thoseJames Bond flicks) and does an excellent job in doing so. And ofcourse, Atkinson is playing the lead so one can expect at least somelaugh out loud moments (and there are many of them). The script isfunny and the amusing action sequences are remarkably shot. The titlerole was obviously written for Rowan Atkinson and he performs all gunsblazing, tickling you to the bone. Very few can pull off slapstick aswell as he does. He is accompanied by two smoking hot beauties, GillianAnderson (who does a very impressive fake British accent as shestresses and stretches each word) and Rosamund Pike (as a professionalbehavioural therapist who inadvertently happens to know hypnotherapy).Dominic West does a good evil villain. With a solid balance of story, dialogue, action and humour, 'JohnnyEnglish Reborn' is a terrific sequel. One doesn't have to have watchedthe first film to fully enjoy this one. I was enjoying it so much thatI found myself wanting more when it finished.

Johnny English's back

I have no idea why the sequel to the funny Johnny English took at least8 years to be made. I am surprised that there're no Direct-To-DVDsequels (It is smart not to). Guess what. This is bigger than the firstone though I wouldn't say that this is more funnier than the firstmovie but this at least has some hilarious moments. Surprisingly,Singapore has this faster than in U.K and USA.The story: The movie opens with Johnny English training with monks in amountain. He is 'kicked out' from the British spy agency as he mostlymessed up his mission. But Johnny is called back for the impossiblemission...This is not like the first one. I have to admit that thiscontains some tense moments and sometimes, it is like the movie hasveered off into the thriller/spy genre. It contains more serious spystuff and people being shot and injured than the first one and the lasthalf and hour seems to be taken from a serious spy movie like JamesBond. This also amps up the action by having a number of chases scenes. This still has its fair share of funny parts due to Rowan. He may begetting old but he still has what it takes to be funny. Look at hispriceless expressions. The movie mostly packs slapstick and tries to befunny at most times. Some jokes work and a few do not. One of the mostamazing things in the movie is that all the actors and actresses cankeep a straight face when Rowan acts funny in front of them.Overall: I enjoyed this spy thriller spoof due Rowan. He is the perfectJohnny English, the underdog spy. I would be wishing for another sequelbut again, it's the Box Office. Hope that this makes more money thanthe first one and voilà, another sequel in a few years time. But pleasedon't make me wait for 10 years.

A bunch of warmed up, same old gags. Look instead the Pink Panther with Peter Sellers.

A bunch of warmed up, same old gags. Look instead the Pink Panther withPeter Sellers.Mr. Bean is the only thing Rowan Atkinson can do well. It is also theonly new creative and innovative thing he does. The rest is to forget, like this thousandth James Bond persiflage. Although Atkinsonparticipated himself in a very small side role in the "Never say neveragain" 1983 Bond movie.Maybe he got from there his uncreative inspiration to do a Bondpersiflage. There is an absence of new creative gags. Everything had already beenseen once or more often before. From such movies I demand somethinginnovative in this area. Some new never seen gags. Not the same oldwarmed up gags. Also it is disturbing that he is neither the full idiot, nor the fullcool guy. Unlike Peter Sellers in his unforgettable Pink Panthermovies. This was the best secret agent/ policeman persiflage ever done.Watch those movies instead and you will fall over dead of laughing. :-)

whatever you expect you'l get, if not your unfamiliar with Rowan

OK lets not beat around the bush here, you know what your gonna see andits delivered perfectly as always, heres a for instance: he walks intoa board room and an important meeting going on, there sitting on chairsthat go up and down and before it even begins you know full well hesgonna go up and down and side to side and break it, and thats exactlywhat he does in true bean fashion for a full 10 minutes.you'l have the simply Devinne awkward embarrassment i.e rugby tacklingthe queen, and you'l get your perfectly executed deluded fool way putof his league yet winging it none the less.i find that watching a Rowan Atkinson film is a lot like ordering ameal from a good restaurant - you know what your expecting, you payyour money at the door, you step inside and you enjoy it, its notamazing and its certainly not bad at all its just right.i imagine I've made it sound boring but well, who else could play thispart, Rowan is unique and I've seen him all my life, I'm not bored - ifanything its like listening to a good joke, you know it and it stilltickles you. id pay to watch a 3rd

A great film that lots of people are going to miss out on!

First of all, let me say the first Johnny English may not have beeneveryone's cup of tea. I liked it, but it didn't do too well in thestates. This one is just as funny as the last one, but will be moreappealing to people who crave an explosion or two. It's more like a fun spy movie with real action and adventure and justhappens to star a funny person--Rowan Atkinson. He's a little older andgrayer, but this movie is filled with his classic physical comedy aswell as his verbal comedy.Go see this movie and if you have a soul and a sense of humor you willlike it. If not, go watch the rum diaries or whatever. And, it's familyfriendly so take the kids.Rock on, Mr. Atkinson.
