harmless entertainment

A young woman takes her dream vacation to Paris with her best friend and her step-sister. The trip doesn't go as planned, and then she is mistaken for a wealthy heiress. The three go on to connect with hunky guys and vacation in luxury. In the end, they may learn something about themselves. This is a harmless film that just about anyone can enjoy. It is predictable, and does not contain any great dramatic moments, but it has an attractive young cast and the movie's target audience of teenage girls will find it entertaining. I would recommend this one if you are in the mood for some lighthearted entertainment.

Monte Carlo

This review is from: Monte Carlo (Amazon Instant Video) I watched the movie Monte Carlo, expecting a little more excitement... But it had a kind of disappointing ending and the rest of the movie was good, but not as good as I had hoped. So if you want a movie with a lot of excitement and twists and turns, I wouldn't recommend this movie for you.

A very cute movie

When I received the Monte Carlo DVD, my little girl got so excited. It didn't take her long before she went straight to her room to watch the movie. Of course, I didn't get to watch the movie the first time around, so I watched it the 2nd time in the living room with my little girl. This movie is great for young girls and tween's. To be honest even at my age I found it be a really cute movie. The movie has tons of great music that makes you want to dance and sing along with it. My little girl couldn't help but get up and dance when the music started playing. This movie also teaches young girls self confidence with is really important for our girls that are growing up nowadays. Since, my little girl was already a fan of Selena Gomez, I knew she would love the movie, and she did. This movie will give you and young girls tons of laughs, and a great movie to watch together. Another thing this movie is really clean so letting my young daughter watch this was not a worry at all.

Disappointing, at best

As far as Summer films go, I was well-pleased with Judy Moody, Cars got me up to a decent speed, but my trip to Monte Carlo left me feeling like my luggage got left in Paris. I had expected the story to be a little more adventurous, at least a sort of "painting the town red" feel to it. But even Selena Gomez's characters lacked polish. Next time, Fox 2000, spend more time on your writing and don't rush production.

It works, for what it is, a vehicle for young Selena Gomez.

No one would mistake this film for a future classic. It is simple andsometimes silly, but for its target audience it works very well. Before I saw this movie I had very little exposure to Selena Gomez. Iknew vaguely who she was, and that is all. After watching the movie Icame away impressed. In actuality she has to play three roles. Thefirst is her character, Grace. The second is Grace pretending to besomeone else. And third, that other character. The last two may seem tobe the same, but they aren't. She has to play them all slightlydifferent to make it seem believable. And, I think she pulls it offvery well.Selena Gomez as Grace goes with her friend and her step sister toParis. But at one stop the tour bus that seems more intent on keeping aschedule than anything else leaves them. Then, Grace gets mistaken forher look-alike, a wealthy British girl Cordelia Winthrop Scott. Seeingthis as their way to get out of a pinch, she goes along with it andthey all end up in Monte Carlo. There the situations develop moreseriously.Mostly a fun movie, entertaining in a very light manner.

How 3 girls have a moment of fun in their lives

I found this movie fun to watch; I wanted it to be me experiencing the trip to Monte Carlo, and enjoying life for the moment as these 3 girls did.

Better than expected :)

I almost didn't watch the movie because I saw the reviews of othershere on IMDb. In the end I decided to try it anyway and was pleasantlysurprised. Sure, the story has been done before, and in the end it maynot be the most realistic, but that's not why you should want to watchthis movie anyway. It's a happy, feel-good movie about following yourdreams that, when you finish watching it, leaves you with a smile onyour face. I recommend this to anyone with a bit of extra time who justwants to watch a relaxing, cheerful movie like me (a 21 year old girlXD) or for anyone who wants a nice, clean movie to watch for or withtheir children. Enjoy!

Very cute movie

I loved this movie about 3 Texas girls on vacation in Europe. It was light-hearted, clean and entertaining. Pretty much any girl of any age would enjoy watching it. The scenery is neat too...especially when they are in Monte Carlo. Selena Gomez IS a sweet, down-to-earth girl from Texas so she played that part really well. As far as her acting out the part of the snobby heiress (her "double" in the movie)- her accent/acting wasn't really believable lol. Overall, it was a very entertaining movie, Selena was wonderful, and i would definitely watch it again sometime.

Monte Carlo: A contrived fairy tale that's been done before and better.

Selena Gomez stars as an optimistic teen from Texas in thiscomedy...now I use the word comedy loosely since unless you're underthe age of twelve, it's doubtful that you'll ever physically laughwhile viewing this film. Gomez's Grace has been saving pennies foryears while working a thankless waiting job and attending her highschool classes. Finally a graduate, she and her best friend, Emma, played by the strikingly beautiful Katie Cassidy, are off to Paris fora vacation of a lifetime. But no fairy-tale is complete without theunwanted stepsister tagging alone, this time portrayed by LeightonMeester. In what could have offered some comedic moments but somehow failed to,the girls realize their tour of Paris just doesn't live up toexpectations. Add that with the fact Grace and Emma aren't exactly fondof Grace's uptight stepsister, the vacation is a nightmare to thegirls. Luckily, this is where the magic comes in and it is discoveredthat Grace has an identical look-alike who happens to stroll into thehotel where the girls are. Add some cheesy contrivances and a fewunbelievable plot twists and bam! The girls find themselves on aprivate jet to Monte Carlo, where Grace will be posing as her snottydoppleganger Cordelia. The girls then go into romantic individual story lines, each one moredull and pointless than the next. Grace's romance with French socialiteTheo evolves at a rapid and completely unrelatable pace. He literallydislikes her one second and then decides that because she likes horsesthat she's "different" and the one for him. They briefly check out somefireworks and fall for each other without exchanging so much as ane-mail address. Emma must decide between a snooty guy she meets whorarely speaks and is played by an unknown actor or her sweet Texanboyfriend played by popular Glee heartthrob Cory Monteith. Gee, Iwonder who she will choose in the end? The most intriguing relationshipas far as romance goes to Meg and Riley. Riley is a forward Australianmate who manages to open up Meg's hard exterior and help her come toterms with her mother's passing while they fall for each other. Theirromance has a slight adventurous quality to it that's somewhatredeemable. The thing about Monte Carlo is that while it's not horrificallyoffensive, it's hardly passable for entertainment. It's dull, long, boring, and stretched out over practically two hours in a simple andcheesy story that could've been handled in 90 minutes. Gomez, who has agreat sense of comedic timing and charisma that she showcases on herpoorly written Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, won meover on a show that's just not good, so it's unfortunate that she hasyet to find a film that will truly utilize her skills and allow her toshowcase her true star potential to the world. Hopefully she'll begiven further chances after this failure. Leighton and Katie are alsovery likable in their roles, but the film's weak script and lack ofcomedy can't save this dull film. Despite all of the above, the sceneryis gorgeous and the three young actresses are not to blame for thispoor excuse for a romantic comedy. Especially when there are greatfamily films out there featuring female leads that cover all age-groupssuch as Disney's Tangled.

Could be a Disney TV movie

"Monte Carlo" follows Grace, Meg and Emma as they travel to Paris, thecity of light. However their trip doesn't turn out as good as theyhoped it would be. Everything's terrible. Their booked tour, theirhotel, their rooms- everything! But their luck changes when Grace ismistaken for a wealthy British celebrity. This was a sloppily done movie. I'm regretting that I actually went tothe movie theater to watch it. This movie's quality was on par withmany of the TV movies that Disney has made. The actual plot seemed likeit was hastily done and had a few plot holes. Also, I found that eachgirl's romance stories were unrealistic, underdeveloped and mostlyboring. However, while watching the movie, I did find myself enjoying myselfand even chuckling a bit. But maybe it's just because of my age. Idon't suggest watching this movie if you're over the age of 15. Or ifyou aren't female.Viewed on: July 8, 2011

3 Cinderellas

Grace (Selena Gomez), a small town Texas girl has been saving up for 4 years through High School to go to Paris. She is excited about going with her friend Emma (Katie Cassidy) who seems to be a bit of a floozy- shoes she says, "If the ain't hurtin' the ain't helpin'. However Dad wants her to take along her step sister Meg (Leighton Meester)who is not exactly welcomed as she looks too much like Kristen Stewart with the blood drained out of her and acts about the same. The three are in Paris having a miserable time because their tour is inanely rushing them. It isn't long before they become separated. Grace is mistaken for Cordelia Winthrop Scott, British heiress and the 3 Cinderellas end up in Monte Carlo, dressed up and going to a ball. At this point the plot is pretty well established. The acting was less than expected, as was the script. Comedy is very light. This is perhaps a young teen female only movie. Originally Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts were supposed to star in this film, but the producers wanted a younger cast...guess how that worked out. No bad language, so sex, no nudity. Drop the girls off and go.

"La Vie en Rose" Song is back

This movie is very entertaining and mind-opening. The famous song "La Vie en Rose" brings this movie more colors and values.

Charming

This was a charming, light, chick flick. Selena Gomez is utterly charming as a warm-hearted, earnest Texas girl who is visiting France for the first time with her lively friend and stiff step-sister, when she is mistaken for a wealthy heiress. The roles are well played, and the love interests are well cast. It is a bit formulaic, but it is a romantic comedy. The scenery is beautiful, the boys' Australian and French accents are real, and I particularly enjoyed the three romances involved.

I believe any guy will enjoy this "chick flick."

Guys, this is a "chick flick." But this film is high quality story telling in every respect. It takes an old warn out Hollywood plot and makes it work. My wife thought it was cute. I like the sights and sound of France. I've been to Paris, Nice, and Monte Carlo, when I was 15, back in 1977. This movie brought back memories. The story gets so interesting in the second half, I believe any guy will enjoy this "chick flick."

Cute and enjoyable

This was a really cute movie probably aimed at teens. It was not meant to be high art, so I'm rating it for delivering a good job for what it was intended to be: a cute and well written story about 3 nice and likeable Texas girls, mostly set in wonderful, romantic European settings, and just a lot of fun overall. All three actresses were quite good and this was a nice afternoon escape film. It was nice to see a teen film that was pretty positive and wholesome for a change, not too old for its intended audience. I saw this in a theater mostly full of mid to late teen girls, and they all seemed to be enjoying it a lot.

MY DAUGHTER AND I ENJOYED WATCHING THIS MOVIE!

This review is from: Monte Carlo (Amazon Instant Video) I don't know about you..but as a mom to a 7 year old girl, I get tired of watching cartoons all the time. Sometimes, I just like to watch a movie with real actors. I saw this movie with my daughter and it was cute and fun! In fact, it sparked a great conversation about Paris and traveling. We made a plan to go there together after she graduates high school! I thought this was a clean movie (other than one of the characters using the word "ass") that was suitable for my daughter. The scenery was breathtaking and we enjoyed it very much!
