Storyline

Plot Summary:

Becky (Rachel McAdams) is a hard-working morning TV show producer, or at least she was until she got fired. Desperate to get a job, she finally gets an interview with Jerry (Jeff Goldblum) - who is desperate to hire a producer for the struggling show Daybreak. Becky accepts the job and it proves to be more difficult than even she might be able to handle. She has to fire the sexist co-host, then try to convince egotistical news reporter, Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford), to take the job, and then try and get him to actually do the job, properly. And she has to do this while falling for handsome Adam (Patrick Wilson), and trying to save the show from plummeting ratings. Will Becky be able to hold on to her dream job and her sanity?

This production is a mess for many reasons, most of them having to do with its frantic efforts to be funny.

[Harrison Ford] hasn't been this entertaining in years, actually, and that in and of itself gives "Morning Glory" a pass.

Did good

I did like this movie, for me it was like "Night glory". When Iwatched, I was so tired! But I think that was a time well spent. I enjoyed the romance, even though it's more comedy, because I lovedthe couple. Becky Fuller (Rachel McAdams) is very stubborn, a realdreamer and clumsy; and Adam Bennett is just the hot guy that everygirl in a ten blocks range dreams with, worker but not like Becky. I saw chemistry and one of my favorite scenes is when they're togetherand she's to go because Pomeroy (Harrison Ford) is getting drunk toruin the show. Other favorite scene has to be her date at the beginningof the movie.Ernie made me laugh a lot while he was suffering and Jeff Goldblumadded a nice messy touch to "Morning Glory" with his hair. HarrisonFord (Pomeroy) did well the expressions of his character with that faceit isn't necessary to say "you don't matter" to a person that you hate. I liked the story. It was the typical story that at the middle youalready know the end; but as I said before: "Time well spent".

Cutesy, Entertaining...

Imagine the old Mary Tyler Moore television show with a glossy remake and you've got an idea of what to expect from Morning Glory. Rachel McAdams plays Becky, and this girl has grit and moxie and perk, and boy does that grate the cranky settled folks at a dying morning show. Through pure heart and the aforementioned moxie, things change...but for the good or the bad? That is the question. Family friendliness? A couple iffy PG scenes, a few words (including one or two F Bombs), but for the most part good, clean fun.Entertaining, cute, fun and neatly tied up at the end...a lot like the MTM show.

Everything in this movie, written by Aline Brosh McKenna and directed by Roger Michell, seems way off.

Harrison with his cool, calm and collected contemptuous air nicely holds everything together as the grouchy news executive from hell replacement for a female foot fetish anchorman. The Devil Wears Aftershave.

Slow-paced comedy that does pull you in

This was just an okay movie for me. A bit slow to be sure, a simple premise and pretty shallow. What made"Morning glory" okay was it did tell a story and ended up making youfeel pretty good. Again, the biggest knock on this film for me was, itwas just incredibly slow to get going and in fact never peaked out thepulse meter in any one scene. Nevertheless, if you follow theprogression of the story it naturally makes you curious and you want tostick with it and see how this thing turns out.The acting was actually pretty good as it should, considering the cast, top billers, Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton, along with excellent supportfrom Jeff Goldblum and Patrick Wilson. Not to mention Rachel McAdamswho did a wonderful job portraying Becky Fuller, the lead character. The only problem I have with Harrison Ford in this movie is that he didsuch a good job portraying his character, Mike Pomeroy, that he wastruly unlikable. He sold the role big time. Now here is a quickspoiler… The last minutes you warm right up to him.As for the directing, and everything else I give this just an averagegrade. Not that it was bad, but for the story and the atmosphere, therereally was not much more director Roger Michell could do to make thiscomedy-drama better.Again, it did tell a story, and it ended nicely. I guess you could callthis a good date movie.Bottom line, this was just a light little story with excellent acting. Grab your date and a bowl of popcorn.knowyourmovie.blogspot.com

A funny movie that tried to hard to be a chick flick. Great cast that was funny, love story plot was not needed. I say B

How would you feel if your idle was a total jerk? After getting fired, Becky Fuller (McAdams), lands a producing job at a struggling morning show called "Daybreak". Her first task is to find a new lead anchor. After deciding on Mike Pomeroy (Ford), her childhood idle, she soon lives to regret the decision. She is forced to try to make it work with him in order to save the show. Let me start by saying that this is a pretty good movie. My one huge problem with it is that they tried so hard to make it a chick flick that the added a love story sub-plot that dragged the movie down. The interaction between Becky and Mike was strong enough on its own that there was no need for the five minutes of love story plot thrown in every now and then. It may be because I am a guy, but the fact that they tried so hard to make it a chick flick it ended up hurting the movie. Besideds that aspect it actually was a pretty good show. I give it a B.Would I watch again? - Probebly not.

The Good, the Bad and the Pretty

The Good: the plot about an up-and-coming young professional woman with "moxie", working with the old stick-in-the-muds isn't bad, and it's very upbeat in the end. Other young professionals struggling to find a career in the working world, amongst the old-guard crotchety jerks who have a guaranteed job, may find this compelling. The Bad: (1) A very adultish PG-13 with lots of vulgar language; which makes it more a "soft R" for adults than a movie for teens. The F word used several times and several near-times (were they going for an R or just wanting to push the edge of the PG-13 category?), some nasty vulgar sexual and scatalogical references by Harrison Ford's crusty old pompous character, calling people a**hole, saying "suck ##" etc. So if you're an adult and want to watch it with other adults, that's fine, but I'd advise not to watch it with your 13 year old. (2) The title. "Morning Glory" seems like a Sunday or Christian or at least an innocent kind of phrase. In reality there's a lot of worldly vulgarity and jerkiness in this movie that's not at all what the title might suggest(see #1). (3) Annoyance factor: some people might get annoyed by McAdams' frenetic energy throughout. Though it's a personal preference, many might think she's a little too hyped up in this movie. (4) Her "romantic" relationship with Patrick Wilson is not developed at all, to the point that one thinks, why is it even in there? They just have dinner (they say, but you have to take their word for it because it's not even shown) and jump into the sack. Is that par for the course these days for twenty-somethings? Her friendship/work relationship with Harrison's character is really the focus of the story, but that's not romantic, and so this couldn't really be called a romantic comedy! The pretty ...... Rachel McAdams of course. Radiant actually, if you like to stare at pretty, high-energy women in their prime beauty who smile a lot. (Great dimples!) Actually, Dianne Keaton also has a great, radiant smile for someone twice McAdam's age. But McAdams really shines, and you can see that the director goes out of his way to film her walking fast in stylish slit skirts and even running in high heels! So once again, some might see this movie as a fluffy plot vehicle to display Ms. McAdams personal charisma, beauty and charm. And certainly compared to Harrison Ford's crotchety, vulgar and annoying sourness as a foil.

Diane Keaton Kisses a Frog

Rachel McAdams has been at the summit of the romance genre since herperformance in "The Notebook" in 2004. However, her acting talents gofar beyond this lovey dovey genre placing her in movies like "SherlockHolmes" in 2009. Most of her past films reach out to the audienceitself in order to connect to them, however her newest film is a littleharder to connect to and read. Instead it is the viewer's job to tryand get something out of it. This is attributed to the film's very slowstart that leads to a very funny core and an inspirational reward atthe end. However, the entire film is very slowly paced. "So what's thestory?" "Morning glory" begins showing Rachel McAdams's character BeckyFuller attempting to be on a date with a man, while she is constantlyconnected to her work cell phone. And yep you guessed it the datedoesn't go very well. Becky is a workaholic TV producer who is firedfrom her producing job at her local low budget early morning newsprogram. Consequently, she feels like she has lost everything and iscaught in a downward spiral with no one but her job ready to pick herup. She is finally hired to produce the failing second-rate earlymorning show Day Break on the network IBS. In order to save the showBecky teams up with her famous yet washed up news anchor hero MikePomeroy (played by Harrison Ford) and ditsy Colleen Peck (played byDiane Keaton) as they go on a journey to self-discovery. Along the wayBecky meets a man named Adam Bennett played by Patrick Wilson who heultimately has to decide what is more important her job or her lovelife? The film is best at its core bringing gut wrenching laughs by thedozens with its ridiculous morning show TV antics. Ranging from kissinga frog to skydiving everyone at Day Break are let loose by Becky, giving the film its best moments. Diane Keaton is in the center ofthese comedic moments as her ditsy news anchor character Colleen holdsnothing back. Therefore, the actors are the most important part of thisfilm. Rachel McAdams and Harrison Ford create a peculiar fatherdaughter chemistry as they portray the struggle of their characters towork with each other. Therefore, their different acting styles meshvery well. Rachel McAdams being one of the sweetest and most talentedpresent day actresses is so absorbed in the part it is almostimpossible to separate her from her character Becky. Harrison Ford'sperformance differs a lot from his "Indiana Jones," "Star Wars," and"Blade Runner" roots as he fuses the washed up hard exterior of MikePomeroy with heart and soul. The film suffers from the addition of extra characters and failing tofully develop their story and background. They are only relevant to onescene and do not have any impact on the film as a whole. Becky's mother(Patti D. Arbanville) is one of these characters as she gives Becky her"I think you are throwing your life away speech" at the beginning ofthe film. This is followed by the appearance of other nothingcharacters that take away from the impact of the film. The film is alsovery slow to start and very slow to inspire until a little snippet atthe end of the film. Yes it is inspiring, but it comes at a time alittle too late instead of building gradually throughout the movie ithits you in the face just before the movie ends.Everyone deserves to have his or her own glory in one-way or another. However, even though hard work is important everyone needs help at onetime or another from close relationships and family. So that's thestory, "Morning Glory" is a very enjoyable story that you should see atleast on DVD.

Of all the young actresses to come along over the last few years, McAdams feels like the one that's got the best chance to become the next Julia Roberts, and nowhere is that clearer than in MORNING GLORY

Morning Glory

This film was talked about a little on Film 2010 with Jonathan Ross, Ican't recall any films I had seen before this that was a comedystarring the Indiana Jones actor, so I was interested, from directorRoger Michell (Notting Hill, The Mother, Enduring Love, Venus).Basically Becky Fuller (Rachel McAdams) has recently been fired as ahard-working morning TV producer, and desperate for another job she isinterviewed Jerry Barnes (Jeff Goldblum), producer of the strugglingshow "DayBreak". After pretty much begging for the job he offers it toBecky and she accepts, but for a little while it proves harder than shethought it would be, however she does settle eventually. Afterconfidently firing the handsome morning show co-host Paul McVee (TyBurrell), she needs to find a new co-host to join Colleen Peck (DianeKeaton), and Becky thinks she has found the perfect. It takes a whilefor him to agree, due to the fact he prefers hard-hitting news stories, being an award winning caster, but grumpy anchor Mike Pomeroy (HarrisonFord) eventually accepts due to his contract soon ending. After sometime it finally comes to the day when Colleen and Mike are on screentogether, and they do develop a fun on screen banter together, especially for the final "goodbye", but the ratings continue to drop.Jerry says that if the ratings don't pick up within two weeks, the showwill be axed and replaced by soap operas and game shows, so Beckyimprovises some big changes and eye-catching stuff, such as weathermanErnie Appleby (Matt Malloy) riding a roller coaster on screen, andColleen likes these new segments. After dating for so long Becky'sboyfriend, fellow producer Adam Bennett (Patrick Wilson) thinks she istoo addicted to her job, and Mike advises her not to become like himand get no personal life. The ratings for "DayBreak" are really boostedby Mike turning up at the governor's summer house and uncovering astory that ends up with the arrest of the governor for racketeering. Now that "DayBreak" is back in consciousness, Becky gets a meeting withThe Today Show, before this Mike lost his cool with her refusing toadapt to all changes, but she is pleased to see him on TV, during thetalk, doing what she asked, and in the end she runs back staying withthe show she has improved. Also starring John Pankow as Lenny Bergman,Patti D'Arbanville as Becky's Mom, Ty Burrell as Paul McVee and Curtis'50 Cent' Jackson. Ford does really well as the overly cranky andsometimes sarcastic news anchor turned morning TV presenter, Keaton islikable as the renowned co-host, and McAdams does well as the woman whohas to keep everything in order. You could say this was a bitpredictable most of the time, possibly borrowing elements of BroadcastNews, and it could have been a little more satire based, but it is areasonable comedy. Worth watching!

Horrible!

I can't believe with all the money they can throw at a film that THISis the pitiful product. Everything about it is, really, quite terrible. The Sound Editor should be shot. The music is grating and rarely hasanything to do with the emotions of the scene, also, is so loud thatwhatever "sparkling" dialog is totally lost. Miscast -- Rachel McAdamsis annoying and should take voice lessons. Pretty though, in the AnneHathaway mode. (Harrison Ford is right, her bangs ARE annoying).Harrison Ford was surprisingly inadequate for this. He was mostlysullen, without comedic timing. (a few times was funny). Diane Keaton, who I have come to like in her middle age (when she is not jumping upand down and screeching, which seems to be the norm these days forfemale happiness/delight) did the best she could. Banal plot (which Idon't actually mind, but this was badly done) with no interestingsidekicks we care about, unlike "The Devil Wears Prada". I see this isthe same screen writer who was responsible for TDWP which is hard tobelieve because that movie I have watched several times and it is oneof those (mostly) flawless movies I watch with pleasure. Really -- youcan skip this.

Best Harrison Ford In Ages...

A laid-off morning-show producer lands herself executive producer of afailing program, which she then blackmails an ageing news-anchor intohosting in Morning Glory. All of the cast does quite well in this film, which I suspect only ran into trouble because people really don't wantto know the mechanics of television, and I have to say it's a prettytight knitted production despite the unfortunate choice of 'IBS' forthe fictional broadcaster -- but the real glowing star here was Ford, who gave a far more genuine performance than Crystal Skull, and perhapssince Air Force One.Don't give this a miss. It will make you laugh; it will make you cry.Maybe the most under- looked movie of 2010.

Morning Glory was Glorious

Loving almost all Rachel McAdams movies I decided to give this movie a try. I loved the trailer and it had well known actors like Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford so I knew that it had to be half way decent. As I started watching the movie I found that movie's theme and message connected with me. I think that this is not only a comedy but also a tearjerker at some moments. I would recommend it to all who love comedies and romance!

Inspirational with great timing

Something has always attracted me to watch this film since its releasedate but I was never pushed to see it at the cinema. My compliments area bit late but this film is truly an inspirational film that couldn'thave come at a better time. Rachel McAdam's resilience that isportrayed in her character brings calamity to viewers that havecontinued to struggle in a tough job market and for that I recommendall who find their position in life uneasy to watch this film. I findRachel McAdam's career to be geared towards the better half of romanticroles but her personality outshines the film here, in a good way ofcourse. She has taken the lead to a level where I can't imagine anyoneelse to fill her shoes. As for Harrison Ford, I think he is starting toadapt to the older roles which is a great thing to see as a hugeadmirer of his work. Its important to see actors to grow in theircareer both in maturity and in success. Harrison Ford had all thesuccess but refused to grow as an actor. Maybe it was a middle-agecrisis or the producer's inability to see him as anything other than anaction junkie. Nevertheless, his attempt to revitalize Indiana Jones inthe last installment was a good try considering his age but it was timeto move on. Seeing him in the light that Morning Glory has given himwas easier on the eyes. The role not only suits him but I think he hasfound his new niche. I think Ford should put hisaction/suspense/conspiracy films behind him.Overall, Morning Glory was truly a surprise and I hope to see more ofMcAdams and Ford in similarly molded films.

The power of positive thinking...

"Morning Glory" (2010) is directed by Roger Michell (Changing Lanes, Venus, Notting Hill). The film is about a young tv show producer, Becky Fuller (Rachel McAdams), who gets a call from a national network to produce a morning show called Daybreak. This morning show is in a shambles with one producer being fired after another but Becky is determined to make things work, and she even brings in a stubborn old news anchor played by Harrison Ford, whom she has always admired, to try and raise the ratings for the show. But initially this results in what seems like a downward spiral for this 40 year old show as there is immediate conflict with the current morning anchor (Diane Keaton). This wonderfully uplifting movie reveals how a positively motivated person can affect change for the better to those around them.

Morning Glory ...afternoon nap

Rachel McAdams plays it on speed. Her frenetic performance becomestired and distracting. Harrison Ford sleep walks through most of this.Diane Keaton got it right and her character actually changes and grows.Good insight into morning TV. A few laughs early but so much of thisseems forced. The scene in the Today interview with the remote controlright there for Becky was too much of a stretch. Will Becky save the show and get the guy? What do you think? After aquick start things start to drag. It's not funny enough for a comedy, and falls short as a romantic comedy. No reason to rush to this one.Wait for it to come to you on cable.
