Seeing Red: Stories of American Communists

Actors: Dorothy Ray Healey, Joseph McCarthy, Joseph Stalin

Directors: Jim Klein, Julia Reichert

Country: USA

Year: 1983

Available Quality: DivX, iPod

Julia and Jim have done a great historical and artistic service towards helping round out the larger story of the American political heart. This is so important for all generations to witness and learn from. The sordid fear-mongering that passes for "saving" America from all sorts of changes that threaten those in false and temporary power is indeed the shadow side of our history. This film cuts through that fog to show an important aspect of our grassroots seeking for justice, better ways of self government, working to learn from history and from those who thought and think deeply outside the lines, and does so in a very human way. So that b...

The Rolling Stones: Let's Spend the Night Together

Actors: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ron Wood, Bobby Keys

Directors: Hal Ashby

Country: USA

Year: 1983

Available Quality: DivX, iPod

Strange- I had maybe too high expectations for this concert movie (not a documentary, suffice to say it is not Gimme Shelter's mix of concert and behind the scenes). Mostly it was on the basis of it being 70's iconoclast director Hal Ashby behind the lens of the Stones on two dates of their 1981 shows. Curiously enough, even as just a piece of film of the concert itself, the editing and shots of the concert are sometimes just ill-conceived. Sometimes Ashby's style of 'kicking back' and not cutting away from a shot is effective, as one almost gets that feeling of being in the same spot looking at the stage and (somewhat) lively performers. The A-Team - Season One

Actors: Dwight Schultz, George Peppard, Mr. T, Dirk Benedict, John Ashley

Directors: Stephen J. Cannell, Frank Lupo

Country: USA

Year: 1983

Available Quality: DivX, iPod

Guilty pleasures don't come more guilty than The A-Team, television's only tongue-in-cheek drama about the exploits of renegade Vietnam vets. The primetime series' 1983 debut season, gathered here on The A-Team: Season One, was intentionally ludicrous, encouraging viewers to enjoy sundry talents of a colorful cast and laugh off storylines perhaps sillier than those on Charlie's Angels. Co-created by Stephen J. Cannell (Wiseguy) and Frank Lupo (Hunter), The A-Team introduced Lt. Col. John "Hannibal" Smith (George Peppard), the cocksure leader of a band of fugitive American soldiers framed for a crime in Vietnam and now thriving in Los Angeles....
