Action + Drama In One

At the beginning of the movie, Baby Doll was just getting into the asylum and at the end she sacrificed herself for Sweet Pea. It was only those too left at the end of the movie the other three were killed. Anyway onto the main point, this is movie is really great!?!? Its a action, thriller and drama. I wont give you anymore spoilers just order it or rent it from Netflix and watch it :)

It had all the weapons it needed, so why didn't it use them!!!

" I feel like the little boy, sitting in the corner of the sandbox, watching everybody else getting to play with his toys. " This for me sums up Sucker Punch, in many ways it's like Zach Snydersplaying out all his favourite video game fantasies contrived fromdungeon and dragons, lord of the rings, district 9, ingloriousbastards, and we have to just sit and watch, when there is no story totell, also were not allowed to play. I could totally rip Sucker Punch apart, just by going into the lack ofstory and the inability to carry the plot forward in any great lengthand various other fatal flaws but strangely something is stopping me.I'll be kind and highlight it's spectacular action sequences, somebrilliant costumes and spot on scenery, good enough to rival anythingI've ever seen, and it's amazing soundtrack which fits in among thechaos perfectly. Never has a film brought out the Jeckyll and Hyde morein me, I'm torn, but ultimately I can't shake the fact that at it'score Sucker Punch is a total mess and could have been oh so special. Basically Sucker Punch is like THE food fight of all food fights, it'smessy, totally unnecessary buts it's quite good fun.

(Snyder's) heroines declare, 'Dress us to satisfy your fetishistic whims - baby doll, sailor, geisha, stripper - but in doing so you free our fantasy world, too, in all its potency.'

I both liked and disliked this movie... here's why

I will preface this by saying I probably had the worst type ofexperience the first time I tried watching Suckerpunch. To cut a long story short, the first time I watched it I didn't see ANYof the middle section... that's right I saw the first 25 minutes, thenthe last 30 mins... and I was less than impressed. The first 25 minutesare very slow and the characters are hard to follow and flat.I left my home and headed for my friend's house. Little did I know hewas watching Suckerpunch too. "Man!" He said when I got there, "haveyou seen this?! Such a wild movie!" ... to which I replied... "Thefirst 25 minutes were borrrrrrring and I couldn't figure out any of thecharacters properly." I watched the last 30 minutes with him and wasleft with a confused reaction. It certainly was not great. It alsocertainly was not even remotely close to the worst script or actingi've ever seen (not sure how many movies some reviewers on here haveseen... Suckerpunch is shallow and flat... but not terrible).I just finished watching all the middle parts I had not seen. I willcertainly say it was not what I was expecting. There was actually someboring parts in amongst the CGI but there was also 3 moments that weretruly amazing works of CGI/art direction, very well done.To put my thoughts into concise summaries: What I disliked: The scriptcould have been clearer, or lost completely. Really for the targetmarket they could have cut out half of the dialogue and just added moregirls dancing and killing things and that would have been fine with me.It was also taken far too seriously. If you're going to push it intofantasy dreamworlds there should be some sense of relief at some point. What I liked: That it IS actually a movie that makes people reactdifferently. I have friends who LOVE this movie and I have friends whocan't stand it. Too many Hollywood movies try to be cookie-cutterrepeats of something else (see the ludicrous amounts of prequels andsequels ... even to awful movies), at least Suckerpunch was somethingdifferent.Definitely could have been better, or worse, depending what you wantout of a movie but it is different.

I don't agree with the critics - I liked this movie

OK, for me this movie was hard to watch in places but I liked thismovie. However for me whether intended by the director or not, it was avery symbolic movie. As someone who was abused and is close to one wholived very much her reality, the symbolisms were apt. The brothel, thedancing all of that, it took the power away from her abuser, her actionworld, slaying dragons, her dragons, empowering her, helping herendure, and to persevere. Those who have lived extreme abuse do liveprimarily in their head. However I will say this movie was slanted withan anime, superhero kind of vibe to appeal to a broader audience, towow with special effects etc. But you can see meaning in it if you knowwhat you are looking at.

Seriously? You're going to call this film epic?

Babydoll ends up in a mental institution, which magically transformsinto a dance club were she uses her imagination to keep her busy as sheand her friends go after objects to escape...In her imagination shefights demonic Samurai, Dragons, Robots and Nazi Zombies (Remind you ofa certain 'Call of Duty' game?)Simply put, this film is a mess. The storyline tries to be clever as itweaves in and out of fantasy and reality yet falls flat on its face atthe first hurdle, when we realise its a fantasy within afantasy....(Not the cleverest concept or cleverly executed)...Thenyou've got the actresses, beautiful to look at, but they lack theacting skills to pull off such a feat...And finally, thevisuals...Amazing...But thats about it..300 was visually stunning andit had the actors to give a strong as well as believable performance.Watchmen was bearable as I understood that he wished to show a darkerside of the superhero figure...But Suckerpunch is just purerubbish..the only scene I liked was the fight against the Samuraidemons, the rest was a waste of time.

Modern Military Mayhem Madness

Sucker Punch 2011... A cinematic EMO GOTH mind trip starring barelylegal, scantily dressed, machine gun wielding psycho orphan strippers, warding off several barrages of mecha medieval samurai priest nazizombie pimp doctor gangster robots and a dragon... in semi slow motion3D CGI... Basically everything a 21st Century gamer skater surferextreme super cool mega chilling teenager needs in a $150 Million wasteof film... But it's all in the sad girl's crazy 'lil head!!! Enjoylining some already rich people's pockets if you can't just find adecent download... I still give it 7/10 for visual and musicaltriumphant extremities... The film's score is a modern cover collage ofclassic rock's top choice psychedelic hits... PAY TO SEE THIS IN ATHEATER!!!!! Or wait to watch it on your gigantic HDTV at home by thetime it reaches your kids' PlayStation this summer... That's if theyaren't too busy earning head shots via some popular war simulation gamewhich will certainly fail them when they are shipped off to fight thenext unsanctioned war in a sandy oil rich nation thousands of milesfrom wherever it is you are from... Don't vote for Hillary Clinton EVERor we will all too soon surely DIE!!! But the movie is good...

All kinds of bad...

Just a really poor movie. Non-sensical story used to jump between sci-fi action sequences. It made little sense, was misogynistic in nature, and just boring. It's like a 1970s "women in prison" movie without nudity. Even adding nudity would not have saved this clunker. What I wonder is who's spending millions to make junk like this? Why not just donate 1/100th of the film budget to me. I could write a better script.

Impressive, energetic, visually brilliant... But not good.

When you cannot be bothered watching anymore critically acclaimeddramas about cocaine or politicians, you decide to inject a little moreof the entertainment factor into yourself, and watch some mindlessaction movie. With half-naked girls. With guns. Inside robots. Killingorcs. And steampunk soldiers. And demonic samurais. That hold gattlingguns. Oh, and dragons too. When these breed together with amore-than-meets- the-eye story, it just gets all flat.I'll give credit for what director Zack Snyder came up with - In thebeginning, it looked like it would all work. It seemed however, he gotlazy right after the incredible, slow motion opening scene. The firstweakness of Sucker Punch kicks in with unnecessary, cringe-worthydialog.From that point, it takes time to introduce everyone and theirsituation. The girls - Babydoll (Emily Browning), Sweet Pea (AbbieCornish), Rocket (Jena Malone), Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens) and Amber(Jamie Chung) all want to escape. So they come up with a plan, a verysimple plan - To find a few items that would help them escape. And toget those items, they engage in a distracting dance, which we neversee. It is portrayed as a highly stylized action sequence. The sadthing is - despite the fact that they look excellent - they aren'texcellent. They do work well with the plot, but that isn't important. The plot did not give any motivation whatsoever for the girls to act soviolent.Sucker Punch is not the film I wanted it to be. It almost worked, butit was rushed in terms of execution. Snyder proved how visionary he iswith his earlier films, 300, and Watchmen. He can direct, that's forsure, but he struggles with the writing. With Christopher Nolan, I'msure he can make the upcoming Superman: Man of Steel a success.

A winner on several levels

I recently saw Sucker Punch at an advance screening and thoroughlyenjoyed it. To be honest, I am the target demographic here. I'm a guyin his twenties who plays video games and enjoys fantasy movies andaction.... but this is a decent film overall. It appeals to my"sensible adult" side that appreciates a good, well written film, withgreat directing, great acting, and overall good cinematography. It alsoappeals to my "twenty-something male" side that loves sexy ladies, guns, killer robots, dragons, samurai and swordplay. The abundant CG isstunningly beautiful and doesn't feel overdone or become visuallyexhausting like some movies. This movie gets me. and I know that therewill be a good number of people who dislike this movie, dismissing itas juvenile, or stupid. who dislike the amount of CGI used in thismovie. I don't care... I love this movie for exactly what it is... agood movie that appeals to me in every way.

Flawed and studio disemboweled but still a good film.

The studio insisted on removing the musical sequences which took a large chunk out of the story's heart. These sequences are part of what made the film so unique and what they ended up with was just a another CGI riddled movie that will be forgotten before it's had time to be appreciated. I am so glad I was able to see the director's vision of this film in it's entirety, in a theater. I am sorry the rest of the world was robbed of that chance.

Worst porn flick ever

I'm confused...There's more grunts than dialog in this movie, so this is clearly aporn flick, right? On the other hand, unless i got the censored version or something, there doesn't seem to be any actual sex in it... That is, if you don't count guns as phallic symbols and all theexplosions as ... well, you know what i mean. Then again, this is certainly a work of masturbation with no real plotto talk about and horrible acting across the board, so it really can'tbe anything else than porn. The lack of sex scenes however forces me to award a very low score.

Great visuals , good message ,compeling characters, average screen play

Sucker Punch is the latest Zack Snyder film , and a really amazingstunning one!! Personally i give this movie a 9/10 , but criticalythere is some aspects that i may consider it : First of all the visualeffects are simply amazing , creatures , samurais , Nazi zombies ,Compeling characters (all of them ) , that is all amazing , but thescreen play is average , could be a lot better , i mean baby doll danceis so great that we can't even see it , some aspects look like Babydoll imagination is the same of a 13 year old boy (a mature "diferente"one by the way) , be as it may Sucker Punch is great movie for Animelovers and people who have a big "twisted" Imagination

The Sucker Punch is for the Viewers

The movie ending is disappointing. Just like the ending of the Matrix. 3-1/2 of the 5 heroines end up dead. It must be too hard to make a movie with a happy ending. Or maybe they have to keep us guessing. Anyway the worst part is that they are trusting this director with the 2012 Superman movie. I guess I will need to keep my expectations low. This movie is for suckers.

Beautiful in every way

I normally do not write reviews for movies, however, when a movie hasleft an impression on me I feel compelled to do so. I actually had highexpectations for Sucker Punch and this movie exceeded thoseexpectations. It's not just a bunch of hot girls in skimpy outfitskicking trash and an overabundant amount of CGI. The story isfantastic, easy to follow, and downright original. I can guarantee thatthe people who do not like this movie are stuck up, and have noimagination, and are probably the kind of people I wouldn't want tohang out with. If you aren't one of these people, then I promise youwill love it from start to finish. I can only wish more movies broughtsuch entertainment and originality.

The PERFECT Film.....PERIOD!!!

OMG!!! The film perfectly titled "Sucker Punch" is one of, if not THEgreatest original film i have seen in a long time. The entire story, concept, script, everything was conceived through the mind of directorZack Snyder. No manga to film no video game adaptation, straight edgehardcore inspiration from one of the greatest directors today. Rightfrom the beginning the story grabs you and takes you in as hard as itcan pull with a brilliantly chilling opening and dynamic scenery.Beautiful sound design throughout the entire film keep you right therein the pits with Babydoll and the gang as they fight for there freedom. The cinematography is almost perfect, the make-up is beautiful and thevisual effects rival that of James Cameron's "Avatar". The story, although at the beginning a bit difficult to grasp i admit, is daring, fresh and inventive. The development of the characters is both a marveland an emotional roller-coaster experience for the audience and almostdemands your undivided attention. The ending, although could have beenbetter, is a fitting end to an almost perfect film for sci-fi, anime, action, adventure, drama and suspense fans worldwide. In my opinion, this film rivals Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight". A definite mustsee! A definite must own when available on DVD! This film isAMAZING!!!!!! 10 out of 10!!!!!!!

A Beauty, to Be Sure, but Take Caution

I highly anticipated this all-original Snyder film, and the movie is very beautiful: characters, setting, and effects are all top-notch regarding aesthetics. However, the story leaves much to be desired, and the experience may take a heavy toll on victims of rape. The plot itself is simple and, at times, bears incomprehensible turns. Without spoiling anything, there were several points where characters did things for no discernible reason (most notably during the ending). I have no further criticism for the plot. The themes of rape and exploitation were laid on very thick and insensitively for what I thought should be a fun action-fantasy film. For my part, I could not enjoy the film (particularly the very deliberately sexy cast) because of the constant reminders of rape and child exploitation. Despite the many instances of promotion of feminine empowerment in this film, one wonders how all the female leads and Snyder's own wife had no problem with the final product. Regardless, anyone who has been victimized with rape or childhood abuse should consider the potential impact of the film: a companion with whom I saw the film opening weekend was rigid through certain parts, and came out in tears, experiencing traumatic flashbacks. While not universal, certainly, the trauma of those experiences can have long-lasting effects and should be considered when choosing to view this film.

A fantasy within a fantasy within a nightmare

Short attention span summary:1. Girl gets framed by evil stepfather, who commits her to a mental institution2.He makes arrangements to make sure she never tells her side of the unhappy story 3.She creates a fantasy where she can escape4.Assisted by a group of girls far too hot to be incarcerated, the fantasy takes flight, video-game style.5.Those not enthused by violent fantasy worlds will not be amused. While I understand the concept behind the movie, enjoyed the action sequences and costumes, and loved the general campiness of it all, the movie as a whole was a bit choppy and didn't flow smoothly from one sequence to another. In some early parts it was hard to figure out what was going on, and people who like a straightforward story will not appreciate what the filmmaker was trying to achieve. I'd watch the action sequences again, but probably not the whole movie."Throw your soul through every open doorCount your blessings to find what you look forTurn my sorrow into treasured goldYou pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow"(Adele - Rolling in the Deep)Amanda Richards, July 17, 2011

good for action lovers

its one of the awaited movies of the year director has shown his class"Sucker Punch" is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vividimagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimateescape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of timeand place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and herincredible adventures blur the lines between what's real and what isimaginary thanks to his step dad .The basic structure is spelled out in the most recent trailer: In orderto be free of her captors, Babydoll (Emily Browning) must find five(symbolic) items – the majority of which are tied to one of the film'sfantasy set-pieces. Similarly, the premise/vehicle through whichBabydoll repeatedly enters the dream world isn't nearly as artistic asSnyder must have thought – and, with each successive performance, becomes increasingly awkward.a bit confusing in the end but it has awesome action tho impractical asit happens all in dream overall its good movie for action lovers

Maybe Works for 13-18 Year Olds under influence of.....

The first 5 minutes of the film, is maybe the film itself, and maybethe reason to pay the money and go see this movie....maybe not. This film has no artistic value as compared to '300', so fans of Snydergoing to see this because of '300' masterpiece. don't go, it is not.The film probably can be appreciated by teenagers under the influencesof various substances, because that is probably the only way, the onlycorrect way to appreciate this film to some degree. Probably comparisonto movie 'speed racer' can or should be made.Acting does not exist in this film, special effects are poorly done aswell as the soundtrack to them, and in general almost all of the scenesare absolutely pointless and tedious. Again for teenagers maybe theyare less tedious, hard to tell. The core of the film is the message that Snyder tries to express. Thismessage is obvious and understandable if you looking at this movie fromthe right perspective. The problem is that I don't know if the kidswill understand this message or if this message was openly conveyed tothem. The 'grandiose' "plot within a plot" is that he describes a Strip Cluband the inner workings of it, the psychology and the circumstances ofthe girls who are trapped in this lifestyle. He describes girls, whohad bad parents or were abused and ran away from home, and the only wayto support themselves became a money making machine of Strip Clubs, then he describes all the internal struggles and hell that many girlsare internally dealing with while pursuing this profession. Then, hedescribes the coping mechanisms to this torture, as for girls to resortto various substance helpers for them to escape their reality or todistort it, and finally the ultimate coping mechanism is to totallystop caring, detach yourself from the horrible reality, and to become aso to speak "living zombie", a living dead, a mental suicide ofsorts,"self-lobotomy", the body is alive but the "soul" is dead.Snyder's point at the end is that this is not the way to go, there areother ways to deal with harsh life realities, find a map(goal in life),find a key(a way to attain it), a lighter(a spark within yourself to doit), a knife(fight for your goal) and finally "the missingelement"(yourself). If you will be able to find these, it will set youfree, you will attain financial and emotional freedom. So if the teenagers who will go to watch this movie will grasp themessages that Snyder is trying to convey, then this movie has somevalue, if they will just go under influence and watch it like a verylong, not that interesting video game, then it's just another pebble inthe graveyard...
