I'v been a fan of zombie flicks for years. It has always interested mein every way. When I first saw the preview for this, I flipped out withexcitement. Everything down to the script and production value isexcellent. The quality of the production gives off a Zack Snyder's 300.The make up and effects makes me speechless. The action is quiteexciting, and their not afraid to kill off one of the main members. They pick up on the emotional/drama stress very well, very realistic.Only thing I wish they would fix would be less special interests. Andby special interest I mean how they practically focuses severalepisodes, could be seasons, on one problem. Some one is lost, theirtrapped, drama in the group, etc. Having to wait a whole week just tosee if they solve the issue is rather annoying. For an example * Spoilerwarning*Season 2, the little girl Sophia gets lost and runs off. After 4episodes they still haven't found her. Her mother guilt trips theentire group to keep looking for her and they've wasted severalepisodes on that.Other than the occasional drama or special interest, their twists andcliff hangers keeps me wanting more. Hope this series keeps it up forseveral seasons.

I first started hearing rumors of a t.v. series based on the comic booksome time ago. By the end of summer, I was reading about an officialseries in virtually every horror magazine I subscribe to and names likeDarabont, Gale Ann Hurd and Nicotero were attached along with comicbook series creator Kirkman having an active hand. Well, episode onedebuted on AMC on All Hallow's Eve and it's exceeded my everyexpectation. Admittedly, I hadn't read the comic book (though I'm suregonna now) but I've been a huge zombie movie fan primarily thanks toGeorge Romero. The show looks and sounds like a movie with top-notchproduction values and fabulous zombie FX. Lennie James steals the showso far in an exceptional cast. On top of it all, Darabont and Kirkmanhave humanized the unhuman in their touching teleplay adaption. Nodoubt, AMC have another runaway hit on their hands.

I really love this series since I'm a fan of zombie genre. This is thefirst time that I watched a drama series with zombies. The Walking Deadseason 1 was so amazing! It's full of action, drama suspense, sort ofcomedy and twist. I watched the whole season in just 1 day and I wantit more. Then when I watched the season 2, it didn't disappoint me. Thelast episode of first half of season 2 blew me up! I didn't expect theending. I really want to write what happened, but I think it's betterif you guys will watch it. I recommended this series to my friends andthey also love the story. Today's February 12 and I'm really excited tosee the second half of season 2. By the way, I love the character of Daryl Dixon. He's so hot with hisbow! Thanks AMC for creating such a great series like TWD!

Long story short: you will get bored.Spoilers warning! I think I can call myself a SF fan. I like reading SFbooks and generally I'm more than enthusiastic about new SF movies andTV series coming out, so I was more than happy to see it beingbroadcasted on Fox HD in Poland. But after watching 1st season I canhonestly say, that to me this was one of the biggest disappointmentever. C'mon, zombies are not the greatest idea on this planet, butthere's been a couple of great flicks covering this subject (Dawn ofthe Dead, original Resident Evil, Shawn of the Dead, Black Sheep) -this series is NOT like them. It's slow, lackluster, contains too deepcharacter development which is rather unnecessary here (not to thisextent), action is boring and plot is ridiculous. The most tense partof first season, the finale, might have brought a really interestingdevelopments regarding the potential cooperation with other medicalcenters or at least could have unveiled more info about the scale ofthis plague and efforts done by US to defend against cold meat. Insteadthey have blown the whole laboratory out. What are they planning to show in season 2 - sexual habits of zombiesor problems related to zombie parenthood?Stay away of it and do not waste your time. I hope they will changetheir attitude or cancel this show. I won't waste my time on season 2.

I was very excited about this series and couldn't wait for it to startand I thought the pilot was already pretty damn good and I had veryhigh hopes. But from there on it went downhill, with every episode theaction became less and talking became more and more until a point Ishouted at the TV "Stop talking, this is a zombie series!!!". There isa scene where they sit at a campfire for around 15 minutes and talkabout nothing really important, the series gets very soapy and at somepoint I hope that the zombies will kill them all. Also there is a lotof artificial drama , you know what I mean, where some characters arejust plain stupid and you sit in the chair and ask yourself why is heor she doing this/that? This series had a lot of potential and I don't understand the hype ofthis series either, nothing to get excited about... I only rate it a 3/10, because the pilot was very good and the zombieslooked cool, but everything else is bleh, even the CGI is pretty lameto be honest...

This TV Show is a good example how to kill the good idea, just add theall typical Hollywood bad cliché like white moron racist, all time longscreamed blonde stupid woman (including the wife of main hero),absolutely illogical behaviors of all characters. So in result you willhave the Walking Dead TV Show. Very disappointed The pilot episode was OK and inspired hope for a tough uncompromisingstory but starting from the episode 3 it's become a one more illogicalfull of tears and screams drama about nothing.I would like to assume - The Walking Dead it's a just a commercialtrash Do not watch it, better to re-watch Dawn of the Dead by Zack Snyderhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363547/

Okay. Now I think American sitcoms are seriously over rated. They areunimaginative and as boring as Indian sitcoms. Now I have nothingagainst American sense of humour. I think the English are hilarious. But as television-writers they are rather unimaginative, don't u think? That is till you watch Perfect Strangers, My Two Dads or Three Men anda Baby. Now the last two aren't really sitcoms, they are like shortskits put together. That is why they are mentioned herein."The Walking Dead" is Americas's answer to Friends. Nobody askedAmericas a question, but they answered nevertheless. Its genius writingand good soap opera thrown in with a lot of dry humour -- it's like anEpisode of Golden Girls but with ten minutes of CGI zombie footage insome of the earlier episodes! What you get it an extremely palatable America sitcom.

>>>> EDIT > 1ST REVIEW - 02/11/2010 > Future of the show? Well, lets face it! They don't have many placesto grab in the plot to make a great story. What will they do? Barricadethemselves in a building and shot the brains out of all the zombies inthe world? Well they became zombie probably because of a mutated virusor similar like "I am legend" movie or even "Resident evil". Yes, theywill eventually discover a cure for the illness, but that will probablyhappen in the end of the show. What else? Probably some guy loved onewill be bitten and convert into a zombie, well... lets face it...itwill surely happen! Military will show up and lock humans for research? There aren't a lot of things that can happen. Zombies are slow, havealmost no strength and a easy kill, harder to kill if they are ingroups but still doable, unless the virus mutated and appear a superzombie that can go trough wall and runs like a cheetah, if that happensthey are going out from the old-school zombie series into a "Residentevil" look alike world. Well at least the show "probably" wouldn't beshot down....If you were looking for a mass killing, brain blowing, blood squirting, body parts flying horror-action-drama show, you found it. Well not yetsince the only thing that happened in the 1st episode was head shotsand a single use of a baseball bat. The mass killing, blood squirtingand body parts flying will surely come in the future episodes! At leasti hope it does, or the show will suck!I don't expect a great history in the future episodes.

I have to be honest i was stunned at just how much i enjoyed this, beena while since i can say i'm impatient for part 2 of anything. I haveonly seen episode 1 but after that alone i feel this is worthy of a10/10, it has an originality which in a TV series is quite a nicechange. Big big fan of Andrew Lincoln, quite a surprise to hear himwith an American accent but i think he pulls it off well enough. Trueenough there were a few leaky points, like why was he left untouched inan unlocked hospital room but who cares. The scene when he walks out ofthe hospital past all the dead bodies and empty streets, wow, what apiece of brilliance. The effects were great, wouldn't recommend anyonehaving a kebab while watching it though :-) Can't wait for part 2, hopeit keeps up it the same fashion.

many amongst the potential audience for The Walking Dead will beunfamiliar with Andrew Lincoln, who plays the lead, Rick Grimes. beingfrom the UK, I grew up watching him in This Life and Teachers. he has away about his acting that makes you care about his characters, thatmakes you feel a part of what he's trying to do. he is a British actor,so expect him to encourage you to emotionally invest in his characterand situation with subtlety and nuance, rather than striking hero posesthroughout. his real surname also makes me giggle.as for the production, judging by the first episode alone, we are infor a potential masterpiece. it's a zombie tale, so there's plenty ofwhat you'd expect, blood, gore, suspenseful horror, all that goodstuff. below that though, there is also emotional resonance. this isn'ta 90 minute film, where character and screenplay depth don't matter somuch. we are taken through an emotional score of shock, fear, sympathyand mercy, love (and its cost: could you kill your wife?) and hope.bear in mind that it's the writer/director of The Shawshank Redemptionand The Green Mile at work here, so there's substance to the work. healso intersperses the production with a few laugh out loud moments as abreak from the tension, all too necessary given how much of it he hasbuilt up.I couldn't be more pleased that it was AMC who picked up RobertKirkman's original work. what you get as a result is a budget to fit, adirector who can do as he wishes, and a pervasively wise use of soundand the lack thereof (particularly powerful in the first scene at thegas station, the fiddling with the door handle and as Grimes enters adeserted Atlanta). rather than having post rock to heighten thesuspense, the director has preferred to use the ambient energy andvoices of the piece to do so, and it is truly effective.if I were to gripe at all, it would be with the fact that Darabont doesborrow heavily from the post apocalyptic works that have gone before(28 Days Later and Mad Max spring most readily to mind). hey though, ifit ain't broke... he manages to make the devices we are alreadyfamiliar with still fresh and worth using.if the cast and crew can maintain the quality of the first episodethroughout the season, we may have a show to sit alongside The Wire,The Sopranos and The West Wing as true modern classics. anotherreviewer compared the impact of the first episode to that of Lost. Iloved Lost, but I'd take it back a bit further, to an earlier culturalphenomenon, and compare the potential impact of The Walking to that ofTwin Peaks.

This was far too much drama and not enough zombies for a show aboutzombies. It reminds me of Days of Our Lives and Grey's Anatomy more than azombie movie. The families cry and whine about the world. There's verylittle realism to the firefights and explosions. The episodes are anhour long, but with very little action. This show has its place. Some people like movies like "Signs," wherealiens attack, but it just shows a family situation while waiting outthe attack. I prefer "28 Days Later" and "Zombieland." They mix death, and in Zombieland, humor. Zombie and apocalypse fans can skip this show. Fans of family dramaswill like it more.

When I first decided to watch the first few couple of episodes, I wasworried that I would just be watching another zombie series thatcontains no story whatsoever, and is just there so we can watch massiveslaughtering. Well, I was most certainly wrong ...The ratio between the story and zombie slaughter is extremelyappropriate. We can follow a great story with just a few zombiesinvolved in every episode. The series is appropriate for almosteveryone. The series includes several genres (action, romance, drama, horror ...), so it's suitable for a wide range of viewers. Now that 6episodes have aired, it seems like Season 1 has ended. Season 2,however, is scheduled to continue on October 2011? If the quality ofthe episodes will stay the same, I will be glad to wait that long. Ifnot, it might turn out a great disappointment. The story is stunning, but I am worried about how the writers envisionthe story in the future episodes, as the series could get quite boringto watch very quickly. Let's see if they manage to pull it off (if theydo, this series will stay on the top of many lists).

I really dig the whole Zombie Apocalypse genre, and any civilizationfails type scenario, since it's always been out there on the fringe inmy lifetime, what with a world chock full of nukes and biologicalstrains that could do us in (e.g. Ebola goes airborne). This is why Igive the show a '7', because they've done a fine job of describing aworld out of control. However, the show keeps going off on these truly mindless paths that inno way would be a factor in that sort of situation. We are, none of us,experts as this is fiction, but there are some hard realities that needto be shown and some really dopey ideas for dramatic effect, that aresimply out of tune in that environment.I liked the contention over the bag 'o guns between the cast and thepeople in the rest home, since a bag of guns and ammo decides whetheryou will live or die for months to come. The whole hostage aspect, however, was truly retarded. And the ending, aw shucks, take some ofthese guns since you guys are really cool behind the facade. I wantedto barf. I would've negotiated right from the start as these were theonly other living souls around. The fighting was just dumb.Andrea's character being denied access to a pistol because she was onsuicide watch? Are you guys smoking crack when you write thesesubplots? You are alone in a dead world being stalked night and day,and you worry over someone's state of mind at the expense of an extrashooter? And now she's just gonna be a victim without the weapon. She'sdead already.Hershel the Vet says no guns on my hidden ranch, because that's my guncontrol view, or you have to leave. Yeah, okay Doc, now STFU and wewon't cap you and take your ranch. Hello? Is anyone home? This is lifeor death we're talking. As Lori says, living with a knife at yourthroat every day. Then Dale takes the guns. I don't even know where tobegin with this one. He's a weak character, and I think Shane would'vekilled him for that. I won't miss his fireside chatting/voice of'reason' nonsense, so please, do him in a mad zombie feeding frenzy.I think the characters need to change as the apocalypse progresses, dying bravely of course, but let them go when they sound like a brokenrecord. I never read the comics, but I understand the cast changes moreoften, and unfortunately, events are not following the books. I willsay, my personal favorite character is Daryl, who wasn't in the books, but he was truly a good idea. He's a realist and a survivor, who haspractical skills in this environment.Get this back on track and don't turn it into a soap opera, and it'lllast. I'm gonna give it until the February episodes, but if the realworld mindset keeps creeping into this Zombie Apocalypse, I'm out ofhere.

It is too bad about IMDb that by default reviews are set from best toworst. I suppose it is in their interest to have good movies/TV seriesin the world to keep people interested. Upon filtering onChronological, I found a lot of nay saying about The Walking Dead, andit reliefs me that I am not alone. If you are looking for an insightfulreview, read the one from 20 February 2012 by captain-balrog. In myopinion, he laid out the pros/cons of the show well.Though the votes for and against a comment are single digits, those whogive low scores and real criticism get 2+ "usefuls". Those that slatheron a 10 score do not actually add much to the conversation and theirpeers give them no credit for simply writing. It appears, from myreading of 3 pages back, that low scores are making genuineobservations and really got bored with the show and its sudden, grinding pace. I agree. What is it about the zombie genre that compels us? Simple minded bruteswho individually are not as great a threat. But in numbers, the zombiehordes are a menace. When being pursued by the crush of numbers, it isall about opportunity, luck, intuition, intelligence, and some otherstuff. The first season was full of tension. The sewer scene, thedepartment store retreat, the "gang banger" asylum were all rife withterror, surprise, and tension. The destruction of the CDC added to thebleak state of the world and left you wondering what could possibly getworse.Season two begins and maintains a much slower pace. I kind of think itshould be that one episode represents one day in the characters' lives. But it seems seven to eight (maybe all thirteen?) will encompass lessthan a week. And really, looking for the girl, Sophia, for fiveepisodes just drained me of any will to continue. Grimes seemsintelligent, but the writers just stalled the series. Perhaps inTV-time that was a day or two, but to watch and wait for months is notworth hinging one's life around it and waiting. What really urked mewas how that started: a wandering pack of zombies that suddenly appears50 feet away, for them to pass with little incident, only to have allhell break loose by the two last dawdlers.I thank IMDb users for adding plot synopsizes as I would rather readfive sentences in two minutes rather than fast forward through anepisode in fifteen minutes. At this point, I will sit on the sidelines, waiting and reading to reengage the series. November 20th, "Secrets",was my last show and I feel caught up, even if I miss the smalldetails.

But lets see a full season of this show before we go too crazy aboutit! Lets look at we know so far, Rick and his family are searching fora safe place to live a world that is completely unsafe, sound familiar? It should be because its the world we all live in except its got zombiehordes instead of a savage world government or ruthless credit carddebtors. Everything else is pretty much the same in that there is stillcriminals, rapists and crazy people. Somethings never change even whenthe government dies and the zombies take over. While I enjoy the show so far I also feel like there might be someproblems with the way the characters are being written. I get that itsonly been 6 episodes in but I feel as if it is lacking in somecharacter development. I still only know who like 6 people are in theshow because they haven't really established any back story or evenexplain who the other survivors are. If that is a plot device to makeit seem more like Lost in that there are things happening that aren'tfully explained or in this case not explained at all then I will stopwatching because its a sign of lazy writing from the writers of theshow. My only other issue is that it doesn't follow the comic at all! Notthat it should but I feel like drawing from the plot of the comic coulddo some good in terms of character development because the charactersin the comic are awesome. If they don't introduce Tyreese (ex NFLplayer who kick ass and takes names) and Michonne (ultimate badasschick with a katana) in season 2 I'm probably not going to care aboutit anymore and just stick to the comics. All that said there has never been a show like this before so I hope itcontinues!

Like so many people before me have pointed out, there are just too manyplot holes and things that make no sense for me to rave about thisshow...although I will say right up front that I do like it.Why? Zombies are the only thing that I truly fear. The thought of azombie apocalypse terrifies me to my core because I believe it couldhappen. As an author I find the seemingly intentional lack of intelligence bythe characters (and parts of the plot) deplorably maddening. Also am I the only person who sees far too many similarities to thefirst episode of this show and the movie "28 Days Later?" Man wakes upin a hospital bed out of a coma (and at least in 28 Days Later the doorhad been locked from the outside and the key thrown under the door intothe room to spare the hero being eaten) and then he's saved by twostrangers...etc, etc.The only difference is that at least in 28 Days Later they explain howthe end of the world happened. We get no such explanation in TheWalking Dead which is infuriating. Even if the writers made the reasonan overused cliché, that's better than nothing! I also can't stand theway the characters act. It's the end of the world, so let's take offinto the woods/hills/mountains/quarry and camp out without much in theway of weapons, food, etc.Oh and while we're at it, let's just continue to act like thelosers/mundanes/whatever we were in real life as we obviously can'tthink past our cotton candy existence and realize that we need to throwon our big girl/boy panties and accept that the end of the world as weknow it has happened and we need to toughen up and have a healthy doseof what it means just to survive.Once "life" has been re-established in a secure environment (whichisn't going to happen overnight) then we can sit around and talk abouthow much we miss our modern conveniences.Like another reviewer said before me, I could nit-pick this show todeath but I REALLY DO want to enjoy it so while I despise the terriblewriting/lack of real plot and unrealistic characters (though with theway the world is today they might very well be how people would behave*shudder*) I will continue to watch it.I'll just end this review by saying this...if the end of the world doeshappen and the dead walk again...I vote to NOT have ANY of those"survivors" anywhere near me.I have a feeling the workload (as in shooting, killing the zombies andactually trying to survive) would be terribly one-sided and while I'mall for pulling my own weight...I'm not for taking up another's slackbecause they can't deal.

Ii\ had a lot of hope for this TV show (like i did for Jericho) but itseems that writers behind those kind of show have a distorted vision ofAmerica. Can someone explain me why the only survivors are the one with low IQthat only speak with their guns? Is it because if it was normal people, they will certainly not create all these drama necessary to justifyanother episode ? What a stupid approach! At this end, you have a pointless story only animated by stupiddecision from the characters bringing them to their one misery. And that's perhaps what is the morality of this bad TV show : we areresponsible of our own misery. I hope the writers will realize thatwhen they will be kick out for lack of viewers...

I love the show it's a fantastic mix of storytelling, very good acting& Zombies. The shame is the AMC BEAN COUNTING PIN HEADS forcing FrankDarabont out and holding all the talent hostage. More info is beginningto leak out and while I would hate to see the show further damaged by abunch of talentless board room hacks whose inflated egos are hopefullygetting the crap kicked out of them.If there is any justice, AMC execs responsible for the atrocitiessuffered by all the creative minds that make The Walking Deadfantastic, will be the first to go in the Zombie apocalypse. Goodriddance.

**this review is written based on the first season**If zombie-apocalypses occurred in real-life as often as it did infiction, the over-population problems of our planet would be taken careof. But wait, wouldn't the zombies still be crowding the places? "TheWalking Dead" takes its cue from "28 Days Later" universe and showsthat zombies can die of hunger too, even if they can withstand it for avery long time. In fact, even if there is no intestinal system toprocess human flesh, the zombies of this AMC show are doing quite well- but make no mistake, they can be killed. And that's the good news for the group of survivors, whom include a fewcops, pizza-delivery guy, two sisters, a wife-beater and his wife andchild, some hilly-billies and gangsters. In the series, onedistinguishing aspect of the story is that these people don't reallychange much initially, even though the global tally of living people isgetting close to zero. A wife beater still finds his prime charactertrait alive and kicking, and a naive cop is still a naive cop, nomatter what happens."The Walking Dead" is much more a character show, than plot-driven.Balancing between the horror of ending up being either dead or a livingdead or losing the last loved-one and trying to go on is what keepsthings interesting. These people really want to continue to lead theirlives, both in good and bad and we are there to fear for their sake andto be happy for the little achievements they make. It's also a very scary show.

Alright In my opinion this show has everything to be a major cult hit.Yet it's going slowly downhill pushed by it's own weight andinefficiency.Everybody knows what the story is about so I'm not going to explain ithere. It's basically a zombie apocalypse, with all the matters incommon with all the rest. But what made it different? A critical, hugedepth in the character design and developing; they're human, cruel, sensitive, coward, brave. Facing an impossible situation. That is howthe comic book series walked us through. Not this TV show tho. This isa soap opera. With zombies. And not that many. The show, however, starts really promising in season 1, following theguidelines of the graphic novel. As soon as it gets out of the road, itbecomes weaker and weaker, bringing a second season dull, and alreadynever ending in only 6 episodes. I keep reading other viewers saying"this show is not about zombies, is about people". No, you got it allwrong, misters, TV is FULL of shows that are about people. This show isabout ZOMBIES, call them walkers or whatever you like, but you'reseriously missing the point if you make an extra out of the main"character". The group of survivors are people that need to face thisenemy, live with it, fight it, every day. We cannot afford 6 episodesof "nothing" going on in a farm, the show should be fast paced, dynamic, shocking, not allowing you to breath. If anyone has read "Gameof thrones" can get an easy idea of how this feeling of uneasyattachment yet eager to devour more episodes can be.This show is built upon a small hooking twist by the end of everyepisode that keeps you going through the tedium of another 40 minutesof nothing really happening. Now they're stopping -to make it even moredynamic- for a while. Hopefully the writers did take that time as agood impasse for bringing some action and drama that's not sounbearably "soapoperaish". The comic books are there people. Get them, read them, and improve the darn show!
